30 years ago today
I got married for the first and only time. I was 21 and he was 25. We spent our wedding night in a motel and went back to work the next day. We got married on a Monday because my husband is a musician and he played every Sat night.

My mother told everyone we needed money not gifts. We spent the money on a new drum set. Both our parents about killed us. :)

We lived in a little house in the country and paid $75 a month rent. We had to move the next winter because the house had no heat. (It has long since been torn down.) We moved into an apartment where the rent was $150 and I was worried we couldn't afford it.

We had two cars, an old VW Beetle that ran like a top and a Fiat that broke down daily. And he had a motorcycle. The vehicles and the drums made up our entire 'estate'.

Lots has changed in 30 years. But we are still in love. That will never change.

The best thing I ever did in my entire life was to marry this man. It was also probably the easiest.

Thank you
If I have learned anything, it is that what you own isn't nearly as important as who you spend your life with. My parents were convinced that this long haired hippie musician could never afford to take care of me. I told them that wasn't why I was marrying him. I was planning on taking care of MYSELF. And I have.

5. Weren't those the days, Muse?
We were so busy having fun we didn't realize how much we would miss those times in 30 years. And Emporia was a happening place. That makes us sad, when we go down there now and see how that town has died.

9. Thay have a nice
arts commission though. They paid us to come play. I have to go to a meeting there sometime coming up so I will see more of it.

For all the old Kaw Valley Hemp Pickers, Kansas was where it was happening.

Happy Anniversary!

13. He goes to bed early
He has to be at work at 6AM. I am on vacation. And I could be in an exotic place like Aruba. Instead, I am here. So appreciate it, damnit.

23. Yes we had fun
and are planning a bigger celebration later.

Hubby said he would take me to Aruba, but figured it wasn't such a cool place after all. So we settled for a nice restaurant in KC.

7. Happy Anniversary!
I'm always a bit jealous when I read these stories.

I'm glad love works out for some people, and that you and your husband are two such folks.

Sounds like you made the right decision.

Hubby and I will celebrate our 20th next year. We entered our marriage with lots of school loans and no assets, but we made it. We're not rich, but we're comfortable (no debt other than our mortgage). The best thing is that we are still best friends and lovers. Nothing is more important than that.

19. Congrats!
It does work out sometimes, doesn't it?

My husband and I are celebrating our 27th anniversary next week.

We were both married previously. I was a widow, and he was divorced when we started dating. We knew each other a long time before we dated. He grew up on the farm right around the corner from me.

Marrying a farmer is no picnic, either. The good years don't always make up for the bad ones. Sometimes we made no more than if we had worked at MacDonald's. I always worked. And after his father died, we were able to rent the property to others. That was more profitable. Like many small farmers, our farm income is secondary now.

I wouldn't trade the years, the three kids, and all the fun for anything.

My husband and I got married almost five years ago -- the second for both of us, and a wonderful match that will last forever.

Congratulations on finding the right man while you were still young, and hats off to you both for making it work.
