Need hotel help with Washington D.C. and NYC hotels
I'll be staying there on June 16th. I keep looking for hotels there that are cheap (even if in MD or whatever) just something very close to the Nation club, because that's where I'll be going and I want to be able to get to it as easy as possible. I found some good ones for $60 to $70 per night but I can't figure out how close they are to the city....anyone from around there know of any good ideas?

Also, for anyone in NYC area, I need a cheap safe hotel to stay for two nights June 17th and 18th (unless i can stay at my friend's house).

Now that's what's gonna kill me money-wise - NYC is so damn expensive for hotels :(

I get so clueless and confused when i try to do this. If anyone has time and can help, please and thank you, i'm blonde

2. Where Are the 60-70$ hotels?
If they're close enough to a Metro station, you're golden.

PS. By "Nation Club" I'm assuming you mean the one on Half Street on the hill?

3. Dunno about DC, but for NYC...
the Newark Gateway Hilton is a great deal.

http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=EWRHGHF

I would call them to see if you can get even better rates-- there's usually weekend specials and such.

Now, there are plenty of cheap and decent places in Queens and around Newark Airport, but the thing about the Gateway Hilton is that there is a breezeway to the Newark train station and there are trains every 15 minutes or so and the ride to midtown is less than 20 minutes. There's also a PATH train going downtown. If you're coming in by Amtrak or Greyhound, it's right across the street, and there's a shuttle to and from Newark Airport.

Safe? Absolutely! Don't let the fact it's in Newark turn you off-- this part of Newark is safer than NYC. And, should you have the chance, the Spanish and Portuguese food in the Ironbound section around the corner is fantastic. The hotel shuttle can take you to some of the best places.

8. I see somebody mentioned the hostel...
that I forgot about. I know at least one woman who's stayed at the one on the Upper West Side and she was happy with the place.

You down there by Camden? Plan C is find a way to and from Trenton and daytrip it. Amtrak from Philly is almost as expensive as the hotel and the scheduling sucks, but Joisey Transit gets you to NYC without too much hassle.

Truth is, even with the Bates motels around here, you're looking at at least 60-70 bucks a night unless there's some special deal, and then you have to find your way to where you're eventually going.

6. Well, if you don't need more upgraded accomodations...
Maybe you'd be willing to look into a hostel.... http://www.cheapaccommodation.com/New-York/Hostel/ Far lower over night prices than many Manhattan hotels, but some privacy and comfort is sacrificed for the price. Also, check into some of the 1 or 2 star hotels. The star rating reflects level of service (room service, private baths, etc.), not necessarily level of location and safety.

Also, one tip I've found helpful for less expensive hotel reservations is to book through a large chain hotel's web site and to join their discount club if available. Back in January 2001, my husband and I travelled up to New York to catch Lea Salonga closing out "Miss Saigon"'s Broadway run. I joined Best Western's club and made reservations at their Hotel Woodward for under $100 per night ($79 Thu. night, $89 Fri. night, and $99 Sat. night). Weekend nights do tend to run a higher rate than weeknights, but the "club rate" really helped reduce our costs for that vacation!

Sorry, I've never been to D.C. so I can't really comment on that... My husband was there a few months ago, but his company sent him and they paid for a nice centrally located (read as expensive!) hotel there.

Hope this helps you some, and have a safe and fun trip!
