What are Feelings and Why do they Get Hurt?
Where do they come from and where do they go?
What do you do when they get hurt? Do you howl
and get mean? do you hide and eat ice cream?
or do you do something in between? Feelings are
funny things.

1. hello Mr. Gropenator, you were on the OC Weekly cover
in your earlier years.
A beautiful Aryan example for the masses!
Do you want to know how we feel: that's why you always touch us, for the feelings.

4. I think feelings are the most important thing
even if they are not real, or illusionary, or fluid as
mercury in a themomotor on a day when the temperature
goes up and down like an elevator in a busy building.

5. Feelings are for He-Men.
If He-Men didn't have feelings, they wouldn't have got
sand kicked in their face as a skinny kid, gone to the gym
and became He-Men and gone back and kicked the bully's butt
there on the beach. He-Men are the most sensitive types.

The more extreme a person, the broader the gap between the mask and reality.

9. By "mask" do you mean the mask he chooses to wear
or the mask that he wears without realizing it?
(This makes me think of Jung's Shadow & Goffman's
The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life.) Yes,
I think we can't really feel or see clearly if there
is this war going on between who we are and who we
want to be seen as.

7. The only people who can hurt my feelings are the people that I
care about. If I don't care about someone, they can't really hurt my feelings. They can annoy the living shit out of me, but they can't hurt my feelings.

I guess only the people who matter to me have the power to hurt me. And I usually hide, and eat ice cream. When I was younger, I would occasionally plot revenge, but now - not so much.

10. Yes. When I hear somebody say
that they dont care what people think about them
that really they want people to think highly of them
precisely because they "don't care what people think of them"!

12. Feelings are based upon realities and selfish expectations.
For example, if you are 6' 1" tall and weigh 165 lbs., and I call you "Fatso," you are not going to have hurt feelings. You are going to laugh because it is not true! Your feelings will not be hurt under this circumstance.

As another example, if you go out of your way to try to make someone like you and pay attention to you, and they don't call you, then your feelings will be hurt because you're a big baby. It has nothing to do with whether or not that person called. It has to do with what is going on inside of your kooky brain.

19. They should make an ice cream called "Feelings Ice Cream."
Then you could gaze off into the dreamy murky distance and
eat the ice cream and feel like you are eating your own
feelings.

22. I like it when my tears (which are pure feelings disguised as water)
drop right into the ice cream and then you mix them
all in and then you eat your own tears with the ice cream as you
gaze off into the dreamy distance. It's one of the thing
that makes life not only fun but worth while.

"she cussed me like a sailor
kicked a hole in the kitchen wall
she threw a fit and threw the phone
halfway down the hall
she said 'I'll be down, at the bar'
and then I heard the front door slam
I guess all in all, she took it like a man."

33. Feelings are stupid and I wish that I didn't have any
That isn't entirely true or maybe even mostly true. I have struggled with my feelings though since early childhood. I tried to let my logic and reasoning dominate my mind and my actions, but the feelings always remainded. I appeared to some as though I had Aspberger's but the truth was that I had an overly developed sense of empathy. I hated it when my feelings told me one thing while my mind told me another. I made made that statement that I written on the subject line several times.
Feelings are confusing and difficult, but really they are what makes us really feel alive.

37. Thank you all for caring about my feelings and being funny & nice.
I feel a whole lot better today and so do many of my feelings.
I hope that I have brightened your day with my cares and woes
as you have brightened mine with yours. Nobody has really told
me where feelings come from but somehow I don't care no more.
May this Sunday of ours shower you with peace, happiness, and
understanding, or at least a moment of something funny or nice
or sparkly. Amen.
