2. I've done that
I don't know if I'd equate it to being high, but I do get a little "punchy" when I go too long without sleep.

3. You mean the Giggles?
It's caused by some physical phenomenon which results from sleep deprivation,
but I can't recall the details.

5. in 1975, I had a farm job in Montana where I worked an hour and then...
slept 2 hours for two weeks (grain elevator). At the end of the two weeks, I was hallucinating. Lack of REM sleep.

8. Yes, when I was editor of my college literary magazine
There were no PCs in those days, so we had to paste up the magazine by hand, and that included justifying the margins by counting the number of spaces by which each line went over the margin and then retyping that line with extra spaces inserted in inconspicuous spots.

You young 'uns have never done that, I reckon.

When we finally took the camera-ready copy to the printer after two weeks of the magazine staff getting about four hours of sleep per night (remember, we were taking classes, too), I went back to my dorm. I was giddy and giggling from lack of sleep, high with both sleep deprivation and relief that the magazine was finally out of my hands.

It was about 2PM, and I couldn't figure out why my roommate and neighbors kept telling me to take a nap before dinner.

Of course, I had to be roused out of a deep sleep to go to dinner...

10. Yup. It was better (or more interesting)
than when I did 'shrooms. The pictures were as brilliant, but I was more fully aware of reality than when I was frying. I had no idea it could be that intense.

When I was in University, I used to start late on my assignments all the time. There were some that I just knew were really meant to have a long-term effort but I really preferred working on them on a long stretch. I scared the cleaning staff one time when I was working on my animation project. My hands had already gotten the shakes from exhaustion so I couldn't even draw very well anymore. One of the reasons why I started working this way was because it would enable my creativity to flow more easily, and I would do work that I normally wouldn't because I'd be less inhibited--be it from lack of sleep or the hallucinatory sensations I'd get as a side effect.
