14. Basically it's rice cooked in heavily spiced water that looks dirty.
The seasoning in the water colors the rice so that it looks dirty as well.

That image made me yawn. I just might keep it staring at it.

I'll catch the late broadcast of Nightline. Didn't realize that the trial was going to be on tonight. Don't forget to keep up with it through Court TV, too. They'll have a camera in the courtroom, or, rather, they'll have live feed from Mississippi Public Broadcast's camera in the courtroom.

I read an article on the Sun Herald website today--the Klan has decided not to protest at Killen's trial. What idiots they are.

35. Sounds like a meal in which
the beauty is the spirit in its creation - even if it misses the mouth watering savory moment.

For what it is worth, in middle school I first go the urge to cook. But I was fascinated with being 'interesting'. Since I knew nothing about how to be interesting with the cooking itself (ala herbs, etc.) I did things with food coloring for shock effect. Added specks of green food color to hamburgers on st pattys day (ew... didn't get the "green in food equals - be very, very wary").. Pink pancakes on valentines day with - goodness knows why - blue milk.

While my older brother was appalled - my parents were... well.. tolerant. Years later I really took to enjoy cooking for them and experimenting instead with spices, herbs, etc. And I like to think that they had a payoff for putting up (and not discouraging) my wanting to cook and be a bit experimental when I was young.

40. Aww...that's sweet.
Yes, I was VERY tolerant tonight, and very encouraging to him. AS far as the little rascal knows, it was the best meal I ever had...and in a way, it was. My son had never cooked for me before, so the gesture was the sweetest thing he'd ever done for me.

I didn't mention that he's occupied himself with numerous chores for me today...he cleaned off the back porch, cleaned my car, and took the garbage out.

I wonder what got into him? :D

45. You may know tomorrow, or you may not know
until he is sitting with your reminiscing 20 years from now. Point is, realize it may be temporary - and enjoy each moment of it!

Great response on your part - someday he may regularly create gourmet for you - as a result of developing a pride and joy for these early endeavors.

And even if he doesn't - he is building a memory bank of how good it feels to sometimes turn the table and do things for Mom - and the larger that memory bank (eg more experiences) the more he is likely to be generous to you and others with his time and energy in the future. That is a beautiful thing to encourage.

Someday he will be a teenager and ignore you and think you are stupid and annoying and bugging him and ignoring him and call you by your first name and refuse to want to do anything with you. Enjoy it now, share hugs, love him for all the thoughtfulness he has and will continue to have (though perhaps not show). That's so sweet.
