My mom's cat was attacked
the other night, by two pit bulls who were roaming free. My sister had to take the poor old guy and have him put down because they mangled him terribly. I feel SO sorry for the little guy--he's had a rough life, and this didn't help in any way to make his life easier.

My mom said that the dogs tried to attack my sister as well, and my adopted brother who went to rescue the cat. One got in front of him and one got in back of him, but he managed to get away.

I told my mom that they need to call the Sheriff's office immediately, and have those two dogs picked up. It's unfortunate, because I blame the owners for the dogs' behavior, and not the poor animals, but these dogs are a menace to that neighborhood. Mom lives in the east section of Pasadena, right on the border of Arcadia. It's a good neighborhood for the most part, and after having lived in Rosemead, South El Monte and San Gabriel, it's a much more safe place for her. But this kind of thing infuriates me--how are these people getting away with letting two vicious animals roam free? I told my mom she could sue them as well, but unfortunately, she's too old and infirm to be doing that.

I feel so bad for Littlefoot, though, because he's had a rough life. And he was one of the most gentle animals I've ever known. Rest in peace, little guy.

1. The poor little thing :(
and your poor mother too.

RIP Littlefoot.

I'd call the police for her myself if I were you. If that doesn't work, call animal welfare or whatever organization exists in the area.

2. Call the cops!
It is only a matter of time before these dogs attack again. If they've already attacked people, that means they are unafraid to do it again. Sometimes cops won't get invovled if a dog just kills an animal (sadly), but there are grounds here for impoundment of the beasts since they tried to attack your siblings. If the owners gripe, remind them of a couple pit bulls up north of you who killed a woman-and their owners now sit in jail.

3. Forget the cops...Use the three "S" system.
Shoot
Shovel
Shut-up.

These dogs are not guilty of anything but having a bad human. I doubt the human will ever wise up. Today a cat, tommorow a child???

couple of big steaks for the doggies...a recent attack by some pit bulls this winter on a girl around here shocked people when they found out the girl froze to death because of her wounds and the dogs owner knew they were dangerous and-saw blood on the dogs but said nothing-. he let them roam free and worse there isn`t law against him letting the dogs roam because he lived in the country. the guy put the dogs down--a little to late for the 13yr walking home from school. there is no heaven for viscous pit bull owners that let their dogs kill or maim people

5. Call the police now before they hurt a person.
You'll really hate yourself otherwise if something happens to a person down the line. At least you've done the best that you could do, even if the police do nothing about it.

I'm sorry about the loss of your buddy Littlefoot. I hope that your mom's OK.

7. If you have the address of where the animals live, report it to the
LA County Animal Control.

I can't stress how important it is to report this attack on the poor cat and your sister. It's vital to report it so that it doesn't happen to someone else, like a child who would not survive.

LA County Animal Control will take a report and do an immediate investigation and follow due process, which may include removing the animals if there is a history of this happening. And if this is the first time for these animals, then the record is made.

It may be best if you go in person today, if you have time. Getting through on the phone is very difficult and frustrating.

8. Thanks, Rad
I lived out there until Feb. 2003, and I'm back in Massachusetts now. I am acquainted with the Baldwin Park office, as I lived in West Covina for 12 years. Many is the time I've had to call them for different reasons, but thanks for reminding me because I will make a call and explain the situation. My mom really has a thing about police (yes, she was a member of the disestablishment in the 60s to some extent!), but animal control officers shouldn't bother her in the same way.

I will make a call in a short while...I believe the offices open at 8, but I'm not sure if they are open on Saturday.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I realize that even though I'm 3000 miles away, I still have a phone and can make phone calls.
