material not in the original release"

So I'm flipping channels and "The Flintstones: Viva Rock Vegas" is coming on the USA network (I SWEAR I wasn't watching it on purpose!).

Anyway, the disclaimer at the beginning doesn't say that the film has been "edited for content" like movies shown on TV usually do. It specifically says that they added material (so this is like, the directors cut of Viva Rock Vegas?).

I've never seen this before. Is it as weird as it seems?

5. I watched until the alien landed
now I'm watching "101 Celebrity Oops" on E!

I have to start watching sports. Otherwise, I got 300 channels and nothing on.

6. Did they restore the scene where Fred
is lying on the floor and tells Wilma "Go get the butter" as soon as she enters through the door?

7. Especially these days a director will film alternate scenes to a movie
so that it can be shown on TV and get past the censors. Sometimes they will even do it to lengthen the movie so that it will fit TV scheduling better. The one I can think of off the top of my head is Aliens. There is a short scene that I have seen on TV that has never was in the theatrical release. Just a short one right after they got attacked at the reactor and fell back to the colonys central control. It shows a pair of remote control machineguns covering a hallway. Then a few minutes later there is a scene of them listening and watching on the monitors as the creatures attack the hallway and the machineguns cut them down.

8. interesting.
I guess having a backup scene that can be shown on television makes business sense, although it seems odd artistically (well, then again, I don't know how worried the director of Viva Rock Vegas would be about compromising his vision).
