Cruise says Holmes 'digs' Scientology
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/entertainment/11872826.htm

NEW YORK - Tom Cruise says girlfriend Katie Holmes "digs" the Church of Scientology. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cruise says the 26-year-old "Batman Begins" actress is curious about Scientology, founded by L. Ron Hubbard.

"Yes, absolutely. She digs it," the 42-year-old actor tells the magazine. When asked if he's become more passionate about Scientology, Cruise says: "I've always been passionate about it. I've always talked about it when people asked about it." He also confirmed there was a Scientology massage tent on the set of his upcoming film, "War of the Worlds."

"I also had a cappuccino tent on that set. And I made sure the crews were fed well, too. And if someone wanted an assist from a (Scientology) volunteer, it was there for them," he says. "People are curious about it - they're always asking me about it, they want to know what Scientology is."

When asked by the interviewer if he's going to propose to Holmes, Cruise whispered, "It's gonna happen, man. It'll happen."

2. So who's taking odds...
...on the "longevity" of this relationship?

Will the late great L. Ron Hubbard himself materialize to bless their joining once the ditzy Ms. Holmes officially converts?

Will Katie Kooks all over the country then convert en masse?

Will Ms. Kidman be eternally grateful that she escaped the nut farm?

Brain-dead zombies need to know!

What's worse, I don't care.

These show biz types live in a universe of their own, anyway, so ordinary definitions and rules don't apply.

My post was purely nauseated sarcasm directed at the celebrity worshippers. They follow every action and hang onto every word of their idols -- but don't know or care about what's happening in the real world.

It was mean, I know. I'm sorry.

Not!

13. Well, there is this: "Nicole Kidman dumps Scientology"
In all seriousness, I don't give a flying rat's ass, either. As much as people around here seem to really like Kidman, especially since her breakup with Clam Boy, I found her abrasive and self absorbed to the point of utter loathing when she WAS with him. So much so that I missed one of my favorite director's last film, 'Eyes Wide Shut', just because of the stupid stunt casting involved. After Kubrick's death, Kidman publicly moaned and sobbed about how close she and Kubrick were, as if they were intellectual equals or some crap. Both she and Clam Boy took it upon themselves to be the official spokespersons for the Kubrick family, pissing off some people, big time.

She's been more tolerable since her divorce from that perpetual twit. If she never makes another film I'd never even notice; I'm only on this topic because of Scientology, and it concerns me when it (or any cult) uses celebrities as shills.

http://www.cultnews.com/archives/000192.html

Actor Nicole Kidman has apparently tossed off the "cult" baggage of her failed marriage to Tom Cruise, reports the Star-Ledger.

The New Jersey newspaper reported that her exploration of the controversial church has "quietly ended."

It was rumored that Kidman's ambivalence about Scientology may have contributed to problems in her marriage to Tom Cruise, who is a devoted Scientologist. And she did seem to distance herself from the "religion" in many previous interviews.

Kidman's father is a psychiatrist; a profession often viewed with contempt by Scientologists, who frequently demonstrate against psychiatry. Her commitment to Catholicism may have caused conflict with some of Scientology's teachings.

11. Here's what MSNBC said after the breakup:
http://www.rickross.com/reference/scientology/scien277.html

Cruise, Kidman: Scientology split?
Was Scientology an issue in the split between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman?

MSNBC/February 6, 2001

The celebrity couple are two of the world's highest-profile followers of the controversial religion, but several sources say that Kidman was a less devout member of the church than Cruise - and they say that was one of the issues that contributed to the split. One source who knows the couple believes that the degree to which they raised their children as Scientologists became "a major issue" between the two.

"Nicole has recently been saying things that clearly indicate she's not one hundred percent devoted to the religion," says another source who closely follows alternative religions and cults. In December 1998, for example, Kidman told Newsweek that she was a "mishmash" of various religions. "There's a little Buddhism, a little Scientology," she said. "I was raised Catholic and a big part of me is still a Catholic girl."

During a British radio interview that year, she went even further. Appearing on a show called Desert Island Discs, Kidman was asked whether Scientology would help her if she were stranded on an island. "No," Kidman replied. When pressed, the actress explained that it is "Catholicism which will keep me going. I'm a Catholic girl. It will always stay with you."

The church did not respond to her comments, but Cruise, by comparison, has never publicly said anything that could be interpreted as a slight against Scientology.

14. Not a "Religion" and they need to be BUSTED for this!
Did the IRS deny their tax exempt status yet? If not they should. Religions require a basis that is historic and involve many factors none of which this 'cult' has . This is shit that a SciFi novelist made up 50 years ago!! Its is a provably fraudulent mafia like enterprise all of which is obvious from a cursory examination of their methods and financial methods.

16. I don't think Nicole really bought into the Xenu cult
Evidently, Kidman wanted their kids raised as Catholics, and that's where all the trouble started.

She actually seems like a pretty smart cookie, so it would be hard for me to believe that she would accept the whole Galactic Empire/Spirits Entombed in Volcanos/Bad 1940s Sci-Fi paradigm that is all that the "Church" represents.

28. Jazz musicians have a legal right to say 'dig' - and mean it.
It comes with the territory; they own it. Keith Richards can get away with it.

But unless Clam Boy gets a mojobotomy, he should be severely punished for using the word in casual conversation.

36. Read this:
http://www.xenu.net/cb-faq.html#faq14

"What is all this talk about clams, and why is the site called Operation Clambake?"

The short version of this is that the creator of Dianetics and Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, claimed humans evolved from clams in his book "A History of Man". Since the claim itself and the "proof" Hubbard provided is utterly silly, it serves as a good example of the general validity of his teachings. CoS has copy protected the word "Scientologist" and claim a Scientologist is anybody who (since 1950) ever bought a Scientology book or a course. "Clam" is also slang for money, referencing in this context the high cost for Scientology. "Clam" is therefore used by many critics as an alternative or better term to identify an actual follower of Hubbard and Scientology teachings today.

A clambake is originally an outdoor party; especially a seashore outing where food is usually cooked on heated rocks covered by seaweed. It can also mean a gathering characterized by noisy sociability. "Operation" derails from the many criminal operations run by CoS, like Operation Freak Out, Operation Snow White, etc.

A more thorough explanation of the term clam and why the site is called Operation Clambake is available on the Clam FAQ (http://www.xenu.net/clam_faq.html)

7. In a readers digest article
about 30 years ago, I read the scoop on Scientology. It's damn weird. Alot of confessional type of stuff to clear your conscience and then to hold over you should you want to break away. The religious aspect sounds pretty mainstream until you dig deeper and then the doctrine sounds alot like a typical Elron Hubbard novel. And OK I know Reader's Digest is not the premiere source of information and yes I am ashamed for reading it...runs and hides.

Time Magazine wins approval of libel suit dismissal
From Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jan. 13, 2001

New York --- Time Inc. and another unit of AOL Time Warner Inc. have persuaded a federal appeals panel to uphold the dismissal of a libel suit brought by the Church of Scientology International. The lawsuit stemmed from a 1991 cover story in Time magazine titled ''Scientology: The Cult of Greed,'' which called Scientology ''a ruthless global scam.'' The 7,500-word story by journalist Richard Behar said the church survives by ''intimidating members and critics in a Mafia-like manner,'' and called Scientology a ''ruthless . . . terroristic'' cult. The church sued Behar, Time and Time Warner for libel, claiming that these and other statements were defamatory.

Subject: Tom Cruise is a genius who knows everything and young girls love him!
To: letters@ew.com

Sure Tom, we believe you, a girl half your age who just happens to be in your movie that is in trouble and you are madly in love with each other, what is not to believe? Your mom and everybody are just thrilled for you. I'm sure it will last a long, long, long time. W'ell be watching that for sure, because we're so fascinated by you. Sure Tom, Scientology is very very normal and has not all all filled your mind with crap, no you are totally correct Psychology is "evil" and Scientology is totally "good". Oh yes, anti-depressant medicines are exactly like opium. You are so smart; your IQ must be way way up there, right? Are'nt you lucky to be so pretty and so smart. Good job firing your management and hiring your Scientologists to run your life; its proof positive how smart you are. Oh and there is no way anybody would ever ever think you have secret sexual issues, no way, not possible; you are so obviously normal. Can't wait to see this remake; we don't get enough remakes these days. People are so sick of original stories; its so comforting to know how movies end even before you see them. Thanks again for hilarious appearances on TV and in the German Magazine. Please do more interviews! We love you Tom!

32. I watched the show more than a few times
thanks to my teenagers being hooked on it. I actually found the acting to be quite good for a TV show. Especially if your into the drama of being a teenager. Katie Holmes was very good in her role. The dialog was very advanced for a show aimed at teens.

After reading the Time article on Scientology I must say that is one scary cult. I had no idea of their reach. I actually have a brother in law who claims to be a "clear" in the group, but he has never forced it on me in any way. I don't even know what a "clear" is, but he seems to think it is quite an accomplishment.

39. What I want to know about this whole Katie thing is - What happened
to Tom Cruise? He's been making a laughing stock of himself recently, jumping around on furniture, etc. over a young girl who fairly recently broke up with her boyfriend/fiancee of five years. Is this some publicity thing for both of them and their new movies? Very strange. Is embracing Scientology mandatory for his girlfriends now? I know it's their business, but something seems off here. I never saw him do such goofy things before over his wives or girlfriends.

37. It's true, she turned it down because of Tommy Boy.
http://entertainment.iafrica.com/news/448651.htm

It's a given that any love-struck girl would be supportive of her new beau's religious views, but it seems that Katie Holmes' film career and social life is taking a beating from her relationship with Tom Cruise.

The New York Post reports that Cruise convinced Holmes to decline a role in the biopic of Andy Warhol scene maker Edie Sedgwick, entitled 'Factory Girl'.

In a bid to focus more attention on a her lover, Holmes declined other movie roles, namely 'Rock It Girl' and 'A Prairie Home Companion', which was given to teen-princess Lindsay Lohan.

26. Yeah, she sounds like...
...a real Einstein, this one. From Salon:
Thursday night it was Katie Holmes' turn to go on late-night TV to gush about her relationship with Tom Cruise. And while she didn't jump up on the couch during her appearance on "Late Night With David Letterman," she did work herself up into a Cruise-like lather. "It's hot!" she said of her six-week-old romance. "You know the wonderful thing is that when we met, it was just like, you know, 'Hi,' you know. It was just like instant, instant." Asked by Letterman if the couple was really considering marriage so soon, she responded, "I'm smiling, aren't I?" Holmes also told Letterman that, rather than being alarmed by Cruise's "Oprah" couch jump the other week, "I was completely touched. I was, like, overwhelmed and he invited me to come out and I was -- I had just taken this huge wad of gum and put it in my mouth and I'm like, you know, 'Spit it out!'"

I wonder if they, like, you know, could, like, complete a, like, double, like, suicide, like, you know, and , like, put them both, out of, you know, like, our misery, you know?
