do not call me 'dudette' or even 'Dr. Dudette'. I am Mom to you."

:grr: When did it become cool to call your parents "Dude?"

He picked it up from his best friend. I've corrected both of them. Do you think a good two-day grounding is in order?

16. It's not a gender thing.
We get along great, but I don't ever want him to think I'm his peer.

Sometimes, when I am scolding him, he says, "I wish we could stop arguing!" I tell him quickly, "Husbands and wives argue; brothers and sisters argue; friends argue. I'm your mother. I'm correcting you and you're backtalking."

LOL.

29. I have perfected "The Glare".
I'm friendly with my kids and a lot more lenient than my wife but when I give them "The Glare" they know to stop. I don't have to yell at them or anything, the hard stare and a few choice words between clenched teeth stops all nonsense. I think it may be due to an unfortunate incident where they saw me fight. They don't want any of that coming down on them. Heh.

17. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to what I call my parents.
Mom and Dad.

If I called my dad dude, he'd probably laugh. My mom would think I'd lost my mind.

19. If, when I was a kid, I would have referred to my mom as dude...
my father would have lost his mind.

Yes, mine are Mom and Dad, too. Sometimes I joke and call my dad by his first name, but he knows I am joking.

21. Doesn't bother my mom...
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 07:36 PM by Ariana Celeste
Lol. She actually gets a kick out of it, mainly because I am so much like her when she was my age. Like mother like daughter, I guess! Lol. She was born in 62 so she was a 70's teen- anti disco hippy! Sometimes I don't even realize I'm calling her "dude" or "man" until she giggles about it. Habit! :).

On edit: When I'm not calling her "dude" or "man", I'm calling her "Mommy" or "Mumma". :7

23. I accidentally called my dad "dude" a few times in the last few years
He didn't even blink, but I'm not making a habit of it. My s.o. calls him "dadoo", and my dad loves it. I call my sister "dude" all the time, and she calls me "dude" back. My mom stays out of it mostly. :P

Of course, we're all grown up now. If I'd called my dad "dude" in my teenage years, chances are I wouldn't be here to talk about it. :D

39. Mrs R. and I firmly believe that the decline of
Western civilization has been brought about largely by people allowing their children to address non-family adults by their first names.

We get a fair amount of (good-natured) ribbing from our neighbors about this, because we fall into the habit of calling some of them Mr or Mrs so-and-so because that's the way we refer to them when we're talking to our kids--and these are people who are younger than us.
