Canadians watching the new Doctor Who series... (VERY minor spoilers) |
|
80% of the questions raised will be answered in the upcoming episode "Bad Wolf".
The episode also plays great fun at knocking television and people brainwashed by it, calling them "sheep". (amongst other political parallels that this new series is known for doing while also at the same time actually is entertaining, unlike certain other series that do nothing but have cardboard preach cozy pseudo-intellectual ideas...)
However, this new episode also poses a couple of NEW questions, one of which is not a direct one. (visual only, so be astute...)
As for the final episode next week (Uk airing anyway), it promises to be the biggest episode ever and I'm already hyped.

Wow! Wow! Wow!
Did I say Wow!?
Seriously. Wow!
I was really pleased that they decided to continue the theme they started in Episode 7 The Long Game.
This latest incarnation of Doctor Who has proven itself in only 12 episodes to be perhaps the best fantasy TV show ever. Well... at least since The Prisoner.

2. Agreed! (and a spoiler) |

A couple of clunkers, but the story arc presented this season was eminently spectacularly thought out.
"Bad Wolf" answered a lot and posed a couple more... Oh, I suspected by "Dalek" that because of the Time War, the Doctor made a decision that (he thought)_ wiped out the Daleks and took his fellow Time Lords along with them. This caused him to fumble with logic, which is why the 9th incarnation rarely saves the day.
More than that, I also suspected weeks ago that if he saw the Daleks again he would crack. And the end of "Bad Wolf" it's obvious he's cracking big-time. WHo wouldn't? You wipe out a mortal enemy, taking your species along with it. You see that the enemy has not just survived but is more menacing than ever, you bet you'll freak out.
Also, did you notice the Dalek ships? Travel in packs of 6, in a hex formation. The ships' interior has a lot of hex-shaped doo-dads, lit. Now I wondered why the Doctor's TARDIS interior looked so different at the start of the season. I now wonder if the Doctor had to use a Dalek time machine to escape; the Daleks originally stealing a TARDIS to learn from it then augmenting it, I fathom. (In "Boom Town", the Doctor does discuss the origins of the police box shape but he says nothing to say that THAT is the same TARDIS he used to have. I could be wrong in my theory, but the similarities did not escape me. Making wild inferences is another issue, however. :D )

The TARDIS interior looks the same to me as it did in the animated Scream of the Shalka episode, which also had a (presumably) robotic Master on board... and that's where I was headed in thinking about the Daleks' survival. Good call on the hexagonal visual association though.
On edit: Looks like I mean the Paul McGann TARDIS from that TV movie I'd rather not remember but will begrudgingly admit wasn't that bat and the pseudo-animated version of Shada.
Heh -- I just had to rewatch the ending and the teaser trailer for next week. I can't wait. It's like being a little kid again. :-)
QUASI-SPOILER
What was your favorite regeneration sequence? Mine had to have been the Tom Baker/Peter Davison regeneration in Logopolis. That whole thing with The Watcher really creeped me out -- and I was in college when I saw that! :-)

9. I liked the Blitz episode ... |
|
CBC has been showing a lot of WWII tribute stuff since the VE-Day anniversary last month (just like the BBC, I imagine), and I thought it fit in beautifully.
