2. Do you like strawberries? Asparagus? They work for me.
Unfortunately, I can't eat strawberries any more. :-(

Beer, tea, coffee!! Drink lots of water. Yes, drinking water gets rid of edema if that is your problem.

Midol and other premenstrual OTC drugs.

3. Do ya like parsley?
It is a decent natural diuretic. Make a tea with it. Add some lemon for more power. I have saved more than a couple of weddings with this brew when a bride or bridesmaid was in the puffy week of their cycle and suddenly unable to zip up a fitted bodice. ;)

Nice thing about it, it does put back some of the important things that get washed our when you take diuretics. Gentle, works well, good for your body.

7. Dandelion Tea?
Dandelion - Taraxum officinale
Dandelion is excellent for the liver. It clears stones and detoxifies the liver, spleen, and gall bladder. It will also promote healthy circulation. The white juice from a stem can be used for warts. Dandelion is a strong diuretic. It is a rich source of potassium, and contains vitamin A.

11. I believe it is available. You can put some ginger and/or lemon
in for flavoring. Use Stevia to sweeten it,not sugar.

That's what my mom uses.

You can get it at a yerberia in Hispanic neighborhoods.

(More details on edit)

Corn silk is useful with the following
Zea mays (yes - the soft hairy strands on the top of the fresh cob) is great in helping and treating the following problems and conditions

soothing urinary tract
assists with prostate problems
relaxation
kidney tonic
cystitis
diuretic
boils
fluid and water retention

Which part to use for corn silk herbal tea
Use the strands of hairy silk on top of the cob. You can dry it for winter month use.

How to make herbal tea

The standard way to make an infusion, is to pour a cup of boiling water over the material to be infused, let it stand for 5 minutes, strain it, and drink it.

14. Vitamin B6
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 09:00 PM by KT2000
not an instant cure but will help to normalize things, it wouldn't hurt to take it every day anyway.

I have found potatoes to also be a natural diuretic. They are high in potassium.

For the long term you might want to look into normalizing your calcium/magnesium/potassium levels. Taking the correct ratio of these as supplements is important as the modern world and all its pollution can deplete the body of magnesium setting off an imbalance of these three minerals, resulting water retention.

19. real cranberry juice and water-- seriously....
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 09:10 PM by mike_c
Of course, it depends on what you want the diuretic for. If you simply want to flush your system, mix 4 oz unsweetened cranberry juice, e.g. Mountain House or Knudson's, with 44 oz of water (4 oz CJ in a quart of liquid). Sweeten it a little if you like-- I use a litte Stevia to sweeten it just a tiny bit. Drink 1-2 quarts daily. It tastes good, so you'll have no trouble drinking enough of it.

If you really want to diminish your body's water content, try caffeine, or alcohol. Both are potent diuretics.

on edit-- edema in your legs? You probably need to move around more, not use a diuretic. GO FOR A WALK!

22. Vitamin B-6 definitely works like a charm, like the other poster said.
It's good for your body, too. Just make sure you eat a little bit before you take it; it's a little tough on the tummy.

You'll definitely be p*ssing like a race horse! :hi:

23. Um. This calls to mind a question:
Why do you NEED a diuretic? Best guess would be that a) you're interviewing for a job in the civilian economy and b) they drug test, and you've smoked some ganja fairly recently. If this is the case, then, whatever diuretic you use, I'd suggest getting some creatine (diuretics work to dilute, say, THC concentration in urine, but they ALSO lower the specific gravity; taking creatine supplements ups the specific gravity of the sample to "normal" ranges; if it's diluted, the lab might reject it)

24. You should also cut your sodium intake as much as possible.
Which isn't at all easy given all the over-processed food out there. I'm dealing with the same edema crap right now myself. I was on a prescription diuretic for a while because my blood pressure was also through the roof, but I prefer natural alternatives ever possible.

If dandelion tea doesn't work for you (taste-wise) you can get dandelion in capsule form at a health food/herbal supplement store. They sell dandelion leaf and dandelion root seperately. The leaves are probably the stronger diuretic of the two. It will work a little slower than the tea, but should equal the same results.

34. Dandelion, corn silk (excellent), Hawthorne berries, and drinking lots
of H2O always works if nothing else is available. And if you can get it here in the U.S. nothing works as good as Copaiba from Brazil plus it heals and protects the kidneys, bladder and is an overall cleanser and antiseptic. (I knew you liked Brazilian music, you might be interested in that bit of info)
