Poll question: What is your favorite film genre? |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 12:58 AM by leftofthedial
<I swear, I have no idea how this ended up in GDP. Doh!>
And why?
Comments?
I'll shift the list a bit to accomodate some good suggestions.
I could have included western, mystery, suspense . . . but I ran out of choices . . .

9. The Jack Nicholson version, I assume? |
|
excellent horror
I was a huge Twin Peaks fan (big David Lynch fan period). That movie didn't quite get there for me, but I find I've liked it better with subsequent viewings.

11. Of course the Nicholson/Kubrick version, haha |
|
Fire Walk With Me is a lot darker than the series was. I like that personally. The movie is creepy as hell.
I'm a huge Lynch fan as well.

I keep going back to Blue Velvet and I had a serious Mulholland Drive addiction for awhile.

14. Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive both rank high |
|
Lost Highway was brilliant I thought, as was Eraserhead. I like the weird shit, though I enjoy all of his work.

I like all kinds. :)
Like 'Blade Runner' for instance, is one of my favourites, and is technically SciFi but it's not like most SciFi. It is so complex and deep philosophically and shot so beautifully that we could analyze it for years! :) Same goes for '2001: A Space Odyssey'

10. the whole cyberpunk genre |
|
is not exactly sci fi. It's almost like techno-noir.
That is a terrific movie. Really puts you in that place.

12. Foreign/International films |
|
Don't like Hollywood stuff that much, though I'll make the exception for film noir.
Documentary would be second.

18. I like Scandinavian films |
|
and am intrigued by many French as well...but it's the diversity of ideas, style and technique that I love, as well as watching wonderful actors. Not 'stars', but those who really know their craft.
Lars von Trier is a favourite of mine. Johnny Stecchino is my all time favourite comedy film.
Definitely subtitles. Dubbing is usually awful.

except in Japanese films. Then the dubbing is sometimes more entertaining than the film.

That and the remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" were two good orignals and two good remakes.
