1. That's the perfect description of TMV... |
|
(I'm not sure but I think I dig this...)
Absolutely perfect. I like them, but I know a lot of people who had exactly the same reaction to their music as you did. :)

2. I've heard them on my satellite radio. |

I liked what I heard. I don't know much about them and haven't heard a lot of their stuff, though.

Amazing stuff.
To get a real feel for them you have to listen to the albums as wholes.

4. I listened to it a little |

My dad has a subscription to that Real Rhapsody thing. You've got to be in the mood to listen to thirty-minute songs.
If you like At The Drive In, I'm pretty sure TMV is a spin-off of that group.

5. Yeah, after ATDI broke up, Cedric and Omar formed TMV |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 04:57 PM by primate1
The other guys formed Sparta.
To be fair they only have one thirty minute song (which is amazing), but the others tent to be in the 10+ minute range. But like I said, you have to take in the albums as wholes.

I have heard all of their first album and a little of their second because a couple of my friends are big fans. They are one of those bands where I enjoy the music but not the singing. I like their experimentalism, with the complex multi-part songs and just their general musical sound. Cedric Bixlar's (sp?) singing is definitely an acquired tase, though, and one I haven't managed to acquire.

They play some of the best art/prog rock around. They are very technical musicians. You also need to check out Sparta for some alt. rock. The Mars Volta plus Sparta make up the old band At the Drive In.
