I don't like the "Americanized" version of Iron Chef |
|
party of the original's allure was it's campiness, mystique and uniqueness.
Now they've commercialized it -- much like Charlie Brown's observation about Christmas.

It's too predictable and phony. And having Mark Dacascos playing the role of Chairman Kaga is just wrong.

the appeal to me was the pure Japanese quality of the show, it was a window into how Japanese people think, what they watch on T.V. - not just their cooking.

7. I am absolutely convinced.. |

that a Japanese programming channel here in the U.S. would be a huge hit. I haven't seen much of Japan's television, but what I have seen I love. Some anime, Hey! Spring of Trivia, a few wacky game shows, Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, etc etc..
Why haven't U.S. programming providers not picked-up on this potential offering?

I've gotten into the habit of winding down my evenings with Iron Chef.

9. Like most other Americanized Brit shows. Why don't they leave them be? |
|
They did it with this show...Coupling...What Not to Wear...lots of others my brain is attempting to block out...
They think Americans are so stupid that they will only like a show if there are Americans in it, and it looks/sounds like other American shows?
DUH. Part of the charm is that it's NOT like other American TV.
DUH, stupid producers!

10. I don't like it either. |

You're right about the original's allure. The star of the original was the Japanese culture, which is always fascinating. Without that slightly alien aspect, the show is nothing.
