I'm still fuming, last night I was called a fascist!
An acquaintance of mine, describes me as a "fascist."

Why?

You see, I'm a "far-right supporter" in his eyes.
I like guns, I think gun control laws like the Brady Bill are a failure.

I have two cats, I'm "keeping them as slaves."

I'm an atheist, atheists "worship the government, not our Lord Jesus Christ."

Just for a bit of background, this person quit the communist party after they became "too fascist."

He also has been hospitalized for paranoid schizophrenia on numerous occasions.

He considers taking a shower part of "indoctrination into fascist society."

Eating meat is a sure sign to him of "fascist domination."

Needless to say, he's homeless, (again,) and off his medication. (Again.)

1. Well, let's see..........
You know his psychiatric history, and you're upset about what he says to you?

You're "fuming"?

Think about that. OK?

And, my cat said your cats aren't slaves - they just need more beer .......

7. I'm fuming mainly...

Because he got right up into my face and screamed "Fascist!"

This guy is one of those people who wanders around, saying "The Lord...the Lord...the Lord..." and screaming at people at random due to his mental condition.

I was angry because he simply would NOT leave me alone when I told him to get out of my face.

Absolute certified nutcase.

The most tragic part is I knew him 20-some years ago, when he was the type of guy anyone would like to be with, laughing, joking, a nice guy.

But he went off his rocker, joined a fundy church (by mail!) and went downhill from there.

I want to have some sympathy for him, but his refusal to get ANY help on his own and his tactic of getting into peoples' faces and literally screaming, just infuriates me.

On edit:
He keeps getting busted, but since he's mentally unbalanced, the jail can't hold him and our local mental ward can't hold him past 72 hours.
"Law And Order" a couple years ago had a segment on a similar situation, a homeless nutcase was nearly beaten to death by a homeowner after the guy broke his wife's arm.

12. You're projecting
Look at what you wrote.

You think he has a choice? You write of his "refusal to get any help" and yet I'm certain you understand that he doesn't have that choice. He's sick. He is not doing this voluntarily, and he is not "refusing."

He's sick.

You're taking it personally because he invaded you. I understand that.

But try to back away from the immediate trauma to you and take some deep breaths. You'll feel better, but your old friend won't, because he can't do anything about how he is.

Funny how mental illness makes people so angry, when they're never pissed at, say, people diagnosed with diabetes or cancer.

Right-click, save the image, it's all yours.

What's funny is that I'm - in real life - allergic to cats and don't even like them. But, this one - well, he's very, very special.

There are plenty of drinkin' cats in Bad Cat. OMG, I peed myself the first time I went through that book. Essential for days when you need to laugh so hard it hurts.

:hi: Thanks for the image!

That was a Monday-morning, not-enough-caffeine hissy fit.

Now, get back here when you have a REAL rant, and we'll go at it for real.

In the meantime, watch the pussycat ...........

23. That's not a rant
That's a statement of fact, as we say in the law.

So, caffeine makes you drowsy? Interesting. One of the markers that are used to determine certain mental disorders are reverse reactions to certain medications; for instance, schizophrenics will get drowsy when given antidepressants.

So caffeine makes you drowsy?

Hmmmm.

Anything you'd like to tell OldLeftieLawyer?

Hmmmmm?

How good a diagnostician is this OldLeftieLawyer (who took a doctorate in clinical psych, so I sort of set you up)?

So, then, you really do understand how your friend's head was working, but he just got too close to you. Right? That kind of stuff sets off anxiety triggers in everyone.

26. I'm talking screaming, right into my face.
Only a couple inches away.

Not yelling, screaming.
And he's a big guy so if I tried hitting him I'd end up a red smear.

Sure.

You understand, though, that he's ill.

After you got over being upset personally, you are able to see that he wasn't in control.

28. It's still scary as hell.
I wasn't sure if he was going to hit me, knfe me, shoot me, or whatever.

(To be honest, I simply hauled ass away from him!)

What really angers me is thanks to misguided liberal compassion and greedhead republicans, he's still on the streets.

29. Thanks to Reagan
That's who emptied out the mental hospitals, and that's when our abject homeless problem began. Ah, the eighties. What lovely things were done by that old fuck.

Thank Ronnie for that. No one else.

2. Sounds like we're all fascists then.
If we go back to Mussolini, and indeed to the symbolism of the fascis in ancient Rome, then a fascist is a believer in the ultimate power of the state (being brief - very brief). That doesn't sound very like your perspective to my mind.

3. As long as you
"consider the source", I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I'm sure you'll do all you can to make sure this person gets the kind of help they need....after all, you're still a Dem even if you like guns and eat meat....the tent is still big enough for that...

he can't control his thoughts. Save your wrath for the powerful dudes in suits.

16. The worst part about all this?
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 08:52 AM by Archae
About 30 years ago, Geraldo Rivera made a name for himself by finding and exposing a snake pit of a mental hospital in New York.

But the "cure" was worse than the "disease."

Patients were just tossed out on the street, and in the past 25+ years, rePUKElicans have cut the budget for out-patient treatments, and cut it again, and cut it again, so mentally ill people on the streets have nowhere to go, no way to get treated unless they attempt suicide or assault someone.

So guys like John, end up on the street, out of their minds, and not much can be done.

And now Geraldo is a whore at Fox "news."

I do have sympathy for the mentally ill, I'm bipolar myself.
