Do you say "you guys" or "y'all"?
Edited on Mon Jun-13-05 04:36 PM by Shell Beau
Y'all is so much easier to say and we shorten other words such as don't, doesn't, won't, can't, etc. So I say everyone should start saying Y'all! Plus it is inclusive. You all means everyone.

6. Well you are saying basically is fuck all you all!
You don't need that extra all. But I guess you want to make sure no one feels left out from the fuck you! Good one!

14. I don't really say that.
But I do mix it up.

Because dad's people were from the Ozarks via Missouri, and Mom's people were sodbusters out on the wind-blown prairie. And I lived and worked for 10 years in DC.

Now I forgot. What do you say?

30. "Youse gals"?
We'd never say such a thing, unless we were being smart ass.

"Youse guys" wasn't gender specific. And "guys" could easily include a mixed crowd (like Spanish plural adjectives and nouns).

It sounded a bit strange when a man would says "guys" refering to all women, but I've heard women say it.

But "a guy" is obligatorily male.

not where I live. I don't take offense if someone refers to a male-female group as "you guys."

Several people around here love to visit there. And I am sure you will adopt "y'all" if you live there long enough.

23. I lived in Louisiana (Lafayette) for a couple of years,
and din't even come CLOSE to altering my speech patterns. A big cause of this was I was working in the oilfield with a bunch of rough characters, and I didn't wanna be halfway between the two dialects. I was concerned that they'd think I was making fun of them or something. I was already the Yankee college boy--I didn't need anything else against me.

Plus, not to disagree too strongly with the OP there is just something about "y'all" and most especiall "fixin'" that just drive me nuts! ;)

as a mudlogger (yes people that IS the job title!) I did jobs for Pennzoil, Shell, Phillips, Anadarko, Texaco, and I think one or two others. I was offshore. Wow did I ever hate it offshore :scared:

Is yours on that list (you don't have to be specific)

35. No, we do work with those companies.
I work for a small oil company that owns several oil fields throughout the south and southwest. We do purchase from and sell to those companies though. I am more familiar with the names of the oil fields. I set up division orders for royalty owners.

34. Y'all is the only way to go
It's gender neutral and much quicker to say. Plus, where I live people would look at you funny if you said "you guys." "You guys" is fairly common, maybe more common, in big cities here in Texas, though. I always feel like a surfer or a valley girl saying it, though! haha

42. "Y'all" singular
"All y'all," plural. I must get it from my southern grandfather, as I was born and raised right here in Saginaw.
