1. Learn to LOVE the pain...
Just kidding...I still hate the pain, but it IS worth it in the long run...

Good luck!

2. Thank You.
I'm drinking a bottle of water now. But my mind keeps wandering to whatever is stored in the kitchen as 'treats'.
But - I shall resist.

3. Hang in there.
After a while your appetite will shrink and you won't feel so hungry. Hell getting to that point though.

4. Hunger isn't necessarily a sign that a diet is "working."
Hungry just means you're hungry. Try to eat a protein in combination with a whole grain or other "good" carbohydrate with every meal. Remember to eat good fats too. All of that will help you digest more slowly and feel full longer.

5. If you have a craving for any kind of food that isn't good for you
then just try to take your mind off of it for about 10 minutes or so. The cravings will fade and you will have forgotten about what you wanted.

8. Go stand naked in a mirror!
No, really...do it. Then just stare at yourself until you realize the pain is worth it. Better yet.....go for a walk or do something that'll keep your mind off eating.

The HARDEST part about dieting is keeping yourself busy. Because if you're bored...you'll want to eat and chances are you'll do it.

This is the hardest part for me...trying to keep my weight off. Losing it was easier and now keeping it off was/is the true battle. However it's worth it in the long run...always is.

Every time I splurge I'm guilty afterwards...rather feel the pain NOW and the success later....as opposed to the indulgence of food NOW and the pain of guilt later.

10. You are MEAN! LOL.
That's exactly what I don't want to do!
Avoid full-length mirrors at all costs.
You're right - keeping it off (once it's gone) will be the most difficult.

12. But it works!

Because it gives you a goal. You look into those mirrors and you want THAT person to be gone, right? Well if you continually eat that person will never leave.

It was hard for me. I got home from vacation, saw the vacation photos and realized I had to do something. However I went the extreme rout, I starved myself. Only ate one meal a day and even then it was often just a sandwich. I lost pounds quickly......and I even got down to 135 (5'10 male). I've beefed up since then because I weigh around 160 now. However I know that at any moment I can gain all my weight back.

It sucks and it's not easy...because I live my life wondering if I'll become fat again. I hate that. I don't enjoy eating any more...in fact I hate it. I know you don't want to hear this, but it's true. Dieting was the most difficult thing I've ever done because food TASTES so good. It doesn't help that my family eats all the damn time. There will be days I also still think I'm fat....even when I'm told I am not. It's hard, because I look in the mirror and SEE fat, even if it isn't there. I don't know if you'll go through that, but it's hard. :/

But there is a silver lining. All my family is fat and I'm not. I look good and I feel good. I don't starve myself, however I don't over-eat...unless I do splurge.

Looking back on it, I'm glad I did what I did. I'm happier now than I was 5 years ago when I was close to 200 pounds. You will be too. But you've got to set a goal and you need to be reminded of that goal. Often times just looking in the mirror will help you realize that goal.

It can be hard...in fact it will be hard. But it's a good push for success. :D

13. Thanks for your help and support.
My friend and I have done all sorts of things:

Weight Watchers, Low Carb, etc.- in the end, I know that it's portion-control and fat count.
We're going walking this evening.
She is heavier than I am and has diabetes in her family, so it's important that she does get and keep on the right track now.
I want to look and feel better in my clothes - knocking off 20+ lbs. is imperative.
