Is anyone NOT going to see War of the Worlds because Cruise stars in it?
I saw the preview for WOTW yesterday. It actually looks like a pretty good movie. And the little girl who starred as Sean Penn's daughter in "I am Sam" is the costar in WOTW.

I really despise Tom Cruise. I always have...before I knew about his Scientology religion and before he ripped into Brooke Shields about postpartum depression and anti-depressants.

Now I really, really, really despise him. But I want to see the movie. I'm torn.

I think I'll just wait until it's available on Netflix...probably around Christmas.

I do want to see the movie--but I'm staying home because of him.

1. Be patient. You can rent it when it goes to the old movies bin.
Just like I did with Terminator 3 this past weekend.

I forgot about that.
I read an article about how well Brad Pitt is handling PR right now, compared to how miserable Cruise is handling it.

Looks like Pitt will be the winner of the current competition between the two. (As far as I've always been concerned, Pitt easily wins. He's ten times more handsome, and he doesn't diss the people who finance his career.)

18. I can see your point, but how many actors HAVEN'T
made stupid ass comments and the public has over-looked them and saw their shit anyway? I don't agree with everything he says, but he's human. We're all allowed to say and think what we want. The movie looks awesome and I love Dakota Fanning. Just because Cruise hasn't been the smartest person as of late, I won't take away their hard work for making a (hopefully) good movie.

Seriously, I'm not being a smartass--you know I love ya. But Cruise is the one person in Hollywood who irks me. I can't imagine sitting through a movie for two hours, watching a guy who irks me.

I've just never liked him. It isn't only his recent flub-ups---he has long irked me.

So he thinks drugs are bad and says so. He has a right to his opinion. I care MUCH more what he thinks about politics than I do his thoughts on pregnancy. Brooke Shields doesn't have to listen to him and she probably won't - so who cares?

Wal-Mart is going to promote Netflix and is getting out of the business of Competing with Netflix. Netflix in turn will promote Wal-Mart as the place to Buy DVDs.

35. As I posted further up the line Roman Polanski drugged a 13 year old
girl and slept with her. He has no problems finding money for projects and people have no problems working with him. If that doesn't make him a pariah what the hell would? I personally find that sickening so I wont ever spend a dime that would make it to Polanski and support his exile in France. Where he ran before the trial and hasn't been back since because he was found guilty. Tom falls under the category of making asshole comments. Which isn't a rare thing in Hollywood. So I am willing to cut him some slack so I can enjoy watching a movie I am interested in. Maybe I am wrong or my tolerance is just set too high but that is just the way I am.

I despise Cruise.

I'm pretty fed up with Speilberg, especially when it comes to action movies.

The original movie version of The War of the Worlds is one of the worst book adaptations ever made. A remake of that probably won't be very good.

And it's one of the few stories that shouldn't be divorced from it's original settings, you can't replace Edwardian England with 21st century U.S. for this story.

No, I don't just mean Katie. The Church of Scientology is really one of the most disturbing things out there. After learning about it this spring, I decided that the grosses for Tom's pics couldn't contain my money anymore. I am too disturbed by CoS to believe any of the characters he plays anymore, so it would be a waste for me to go to another film he's in. Not to mention the fact that he gives a ton of money to those creepy people. I would feel like I was contributing to that destructive madness.

Sadly, I *will* go see the movie, simply because I must see what an abominable piece of braindead useless non-artistic offensive shit it is.

But if I were to boycott it, like I know I should, I'm boycotting for only reason that matters in an artistic boycott - Tom Cruise is a total talentless piece of shit fuckjob of an "actor".

Boycotting a film because of an actor's or director's political leanings, opinions, private life, etc. is pretty damned silly, as far as I am concerned. Who gives a flying fuck? They're not going to affect the movie at all.
