5. I don't know. Just about everything, I guess. |
|
Those old pictures I posted of my cat really brought it stirring to the surface, and then the posts about the midwest weather.
I miss my little house in the St. Paul suburbs. I really thought we'd raise our kids in that house. I miss my kids being able to see their grandparents and cousins every day.
It just hits me like a ton of bricks every few months, and today I have it bad.
Thanks for the hug.

My folks and my husband's parents always bring us Caribou beans when they visit (and I occasionally order from the website), but there's nothing like getting a freshly made Caribou right AT Caribou.

I'll be fine for weeks or months at a time - missing home, but content with my situation - and then it just smacks me upside the head. I'm going home for a monthlong visit in a couple of weeks, and I think that might be contributing too.

Yep, I bet you're just really excited about the trip and wish it were sooner.
I'm lucky in that I'm only a six-hour drive from my hometown, so I can visit if my aching for it gets too bad.

38. It's nice to kick back and relax at my folks' house. |

I have a sister and brother-in-law who live within walking distance of my parents, and they have two children the same ages as my younger two. I have another sister and a brother who live about an hour or so from there, and I have one more sister who lives in Atlanta but will be visiting this summer the same time I am. I haven't seen her in four years, since I was pregnant with my son! She had her first baby last year, so I can't wait to see them.

how that works, where a bunch of people set up a situation that makes certain keywords pull up a page that didn't intend to be pulled up with those particular keywords?
It used to be "miserable failure", to get DUH-bya's bio. Maybe still works.

Glad you can go back for visits.
I spent my first 20 years in the same place in the Chicago suburbs. My parents sold our house and moved to another state, leaving me and my brother to go find our own places. Then all our friends in the neighborhood sold and moved too. Last time I was back there, there was no one left I knew. It's depressing. I even hear4d the people who bought our house knocked down the wall between the livingroom and my childhood bedroom, so that room is even gone.
Now when someone asks where home is, I have to say it's right here.
But I still get those pangs of nostalgia and miss the old neighborhood.
Ah, well, luckily I love Wisconsin.

37. I would settle for Wisconsin if it came to that. |
|
I did live there for three years in my mid 20s; close enough to head home a couple weekends a month.
My parents sold my childhood home in 1992, when I was 26. My brother and I toyed with the idea of buying it ourselves (we were the only umarried siblings at the time), but we didn't do it. The woman who bought it from my folks completely changed it. She sold it last year, and I saw the photo tour on a real estate website. It didn't look a thing like "our" house.
Many's the time my mother says she wishes they'd stayed there.

Can't be homesick when you have something like that to tell your friends. They'll be confused for weeks (ok, I tend toward exaggeration, but at least 25 nanoseconds, guaranteed) over what the heck you're talking about. Most humorous.
