Where there is a town of derived name, but where this town is the not county-town (possibly the only one, I'm not sure).

Formerly the town sharing a name with the county was the county-town, but we got a new county-town which dates back merely to the reign of Henry VIII who changed it in 1529.

I was thinking of some of the towns

Under the laws in effect in Virginia, all municipalities incorporated as cities are independent of any county

Some other municipalities incorporated as towns, which are not independent of a county
