So I met Thtwudbeme and JanMichael at the Grand Canyon
The weekend before last.

Thtwudbeme is seriously cool and funny - brilliant and a smartass. We have been friends on DU for over 3 years, so meeting her in person was a hoot!

We left some kind of incoherent voice mail with NSMA. :D

And JanMichael? Thtwudbeme (they are married) regrets leaving us alone in the hotel room Sunday morning.

He and I stayed up late discussing world affairs, solving global energy problems, and drinking Jack Daniel's. Thtwudbeme tried sleeping through this.

We alll watched (along with Thtwudbeme's parents) a BEAUTIFUL Grand Canyon sunset. Everyone should experience that once.

2. Grand Canyon is awesome, isn't it?
The South Rim in the village is insane, but going to the North Rim (at least when I went there) was beautiful. I agree, everybody should see it at least once..

4. I want to go to the North Rim
No doubt much more serene, and only open during the summer.

Work has been out-and-out tough for her lately. She did drive out here for my birthday, and we had a GREAT time.

Countdown is 47 days to California!

15. DU will be happy to learn...
Michael gave me a hearty "fuck you" for starting the whole yak mess. But we got along famously for a couple of veteran GD warriors!

Your loss, man! They rule the roost.

Michael is cute! LOL She ain't so shabby either!

We solved the world's energy problems, but made the mistake of writing it down on a cocktail napkin and throwing it away. :-(

19. too bad you weren't at a cocktail party with Ronald Reagan
that is how SDI (or star wars) came into reality (diagrams on a cocktail napkin at a party).

I can not say how much I enjoy and hold in esteem all three of you. I wasn't kidding in saying that I am jealous of all three of you - as I would have loved to have met each one of you in person.

30. while I am certain in my presumption
that the type of interest in my being there and Nini being there is different - I am flattered nonetheless. :D

Have had the joy of at least conversing with the wonderful Stephanie (while JM had to just listen on the outside ot the oneside of the conversation)... the three of you together - what a heck of a set of conversations and weekend.

Too bad for me that there really isn't much of a draw to Hoosier land to bring people to the region for a visit (though I hear that in the fall there will be a very special wedding in the region) - and that I am still in the throes of startup so that I can't get away. Not much chance to meet some of my long time DU freinds. Thus am very jealous.

35. What a great experience
that I have to look forward to. :-)

My last trip out there I was on the ground for just over 24 hours (a very quick and last minute business trip) - and yet was lucky to spend several of those hours with NSMA - and an hour with DoveturnedHawk. Next time - more time and more time with Dufriends.

Of course I keep waiting to greet folks who come to Indi or Bloomington on business or vacation ... but for some strange reason it never happens... ;-)

Then I wouldn't have sneezed all over the napkin that had the formula for cold-fusion that you managed to create after getting kicked by that damned canyon donkey. It was amazing.

Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 09:06 PM by Thtwudbeme
...gave me while I was lounging on a recliner right on the South Rim.

It was spectacular!

Edit: God damn it! This is me, Michael...I'm so used to her posting under MY username...

Oh well. It was fun wasn't it? Not the hot oil massage but getting to shot the shit with a fellow traveller and such:-)

34. As I said, treasure it.
Seriously. I was going to type some idiotic remark here about having a reminiscence to bore the grandkids with when you get old, but that would have been rude and untrue.

You had, truly, an evening (and a morning as well) to remember.

Remember it.

It's hard to beat looking over a 1,000(?)ft canyon edge while contemplating the extra-humanscale scenarie, and the fate of the World, with friends.

44. Unfortunately, no
The train runs at 9AM from Williams, and leaves the Canyon at 3PM. For convenience, I drove (only 80 miles from my door) to the South Rim at 5PM, and returned by noon the next day.

JanMichael is one snoring left-wing mofo! :D
