No ties, or bongs, or dirty magazines. He'll have to pick those out himself.

3. Whatever strikes his fancy.
People have different interests. Kinda hard to nail down the perfect gift, as it varies from person to person.

5. Gift card to Radio Shack or

Barbecue set
Leather loafers with good arch support
Emergency kit for car

I always give giftcards to Barnes & Noble or Borders -- since everyone loves those stores, they can pick out their own gift, and those stores are very BLUE!

6. If you are close by, the best gift you can give is your time.
Otherwise, a gift certificate to his favorite restaurant or book store is nice.

I'm taking my dad to a Swing/ Big Band concert. The show isn't until next month but it doesn't matter. It is what he loves and I love him.

12. I believe it
My husband once enclosed a back porch for my Dad, put down tile, put up walls, shelves, bought furniture, installed lighting - all in two days - and that was about the best thing he could have done for my Dad, who had always wanted to work on something like that amd who was absolutely out of his mind with joy as my husband took him along on every part of the project.

It's the personal touch, yeah.

10. Depends on the person.
My dad, adore him as I might, can't remember how old he is, let alone how long he's been retired or how many grandchildren he's got. I send cute, funny cards and maybe flowers, if the budget allows.

I love him just the same, even though he won't remember that I just told him so.
