Mother says she beheaded daughter
Tuesday, June 14, 2005
By HECTOR CASTRO
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

She told friends her daughter was an uncontrollable "demon."

So, detectives contend, the woman drew a bath in her White Center home, placed the 6-year- old child in the water and held her under until she died.

Then, using an ax she bought at a nearby hardware store, she cut the child's head off.

Yesterday, King County prosecutors charged Samara L. Spann, 30, with first-degree murder for the slaying of her daughter, Kyeimah Spann. She was being held under watch in the medical ward of the Sacramento County Main Jail in Sacramento, Calif., where she was arrested last week for allegedly slapping another child.

4. A "demon"?
Good grief... Read the whole article and it is clear that this woman is severely disturbed. I hope she is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law -- save the death penalty because I do not agree with it. However, it is most difficult to think that when something like this happens.

17. She needs serious psychiatric help, and lots of it
If killing your own child isn't the very definition of insanity, I don't know what is. Yeah, she needs to do her prison time, but she needs psych triage (or whatever it's called) first.

20. Hmmm. I don't get it.
You admit she's completely insane, yet you want her to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law...

Pretty crazy place. Used to be Seattle's not-so-dirty secret, but I thought it was getting better. Of course, the last time I was there was 2002.

helped get off her psych meds. Lots of vitamins, instead. Yeah, that's the ticket.

7. "as a crack baby, the girl was difficult to control" WTF?
Spann said she was a heavy drug user when Kyeimah was born, and that as a crack baby, the girl was difficult to control. In the late hours of Dec. 31 or Jan. 1, Spann said, she'd had enough.

When the girl kept getting out of bed, interrupting a conversation Spann was having on the phone with a friend, she decided to drown the child.

Hey, Miz Spann? Killing your kid for interrupting a phone call demonstrates some control problems on your end as well, I would think.

9. Not to mention the lack of control in using crack while pregnant

:banghead: You know, the idiocy of the human race just stuns me sometimes. So essentially, she's blaming the kid for behavior that she, the mother, caused by her drug usage.

This is similar to the piece I read today concerning the 12 year old boy who was mauled to death by the family pit bulls. His mother had left him in the basement and told him to keep the door closed as she was going out to run errands. She wanted him away from the dogs because one was in heat and the male was getting aggressive. "He had plenty of food in there," she said, "but, being Nicholas, he couldn't listen to what I said."

:wtf: Okay, beyond the obvious irresponsibility of having two unneutered pit bulls, why not A) take the kid with you or B) PUT THE FUCKING DOGS IN THE BASEMENT!!!!!!! In essence, both these women are blaming their own kids for being dead!

Some people should not have either kids OR dogs.

edited for wrong smiley

11. "Hey, look, there goes the woman who drowned and beheaded her daughter."
Doesn't matter where this woman goes or what she does in her life from now on, she has the aura of evil that will cling to her forever.

18. Just awful
I agree this woman should be in a mental home to get help instead of prison right now. I'm also against the death penalty because I believe in helping to try to change the person's soul (therapy and whatnot) instead of just killing their body. What if they go onto the afterlife and then come back and are the same way in the next life? It doesn't do anybody any good. Some things you can't change or help though, but I hope this woman can get some help. I hope her child is okay now. Poor baby. :(

23. Obviously they weren't enough. Simply giving someone pills is not
proper medical care, expecially when the person's psychotic. Treatment of psychosis is not a matter of handing out the right drugs, no matter what the HMOs say.

27. actually, most people who are psychotic
are not violent. But even medications and treatment do not necessarily guarantee that there will not be violence.

21. So, Is This OK With Fundamentalist Christians?
Didn't Christ cast out some demons, into pigs and over a cliff or some such?

Let's say the girl really was a Demon. Don't the fundamentalists believe in a supernatural evil and can infest a human form? So maybe this good woman saved the world from this growing demon. Who is to say no?

I don't believe in demons myself, so its a simple if horrible murder and nothing else. But if you believe in a supreme good and its opposite then there's a defense to be made here.

24. my sympathies all for that poor little girl...
but i really fucking hate these dead baby threads...children die everyday...and yet the msm still manages to distill all the tragedies in the nation to one or two stories a week...designed to fascinate the general public...mind numbing freak show bullshit...roasted babies...eaten alive babies...drowned babies...decapitated babies...all designed to fascinate us...give us that deer in the headlights moment...

live healthy babies just aren't good copy...

25. Well,
all I can say is that there seems to be an epidemic of mothers killing their children right now, but I don't place much faith in the statistics on that. I think that the MSM is just allowing these macabre stories to come to the top of the slush pile for their sensationalism and the sordid details, because if nothing else, the white house needs us to be distracted as much as possible.

If you think about it, these stories tend to be completely one sided. Yeah, yeah, the woman is obviously in need of proper medication, but even here we must consider ALL the sides, and not just that of a so-called "objective" media. REgardless of any other factor, we must remember that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and we can not prejudge someone by the insinuations that the article (and reporter) makes. It's quite obvious that this kind of stuff sells newspapers, and that's really the bottom line.

Having said that, I still hold tenaciously to the principle that this kind of situation is not new, but was previously buried in the closet in the old days, just like any other family secrets. It's being exposed and that's good, even though many people are not able to handle the revelations.

And since the majority of MSM outlets are owned by or controlled by pukes, it becomes the kind of situation where they're more than happy to provide fodder to keep the masses happy.

It always reminds me of the days of capital punishment in medieval times, when people would stop what they were doing to watch a hanging, or a beheading, or just to harass someone in the stockade. People in general really haven't changed that much in the past 400-500 years.
