What is your favorite grocery store? |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 08:33 PM by AngryAmish
Mine is Caputo's Fresh Market. It is a small chain around Chicago's suburbs. They get fresh bread daily from the best bakeries in Chicago. Huge deli (8 different proscuttos) and big cheese selection. They make fresh mozzerella every day. If you have not had fresh mozzerella and eat that processed crap you are really missing something.
Plus, it is dirt cheap. Fresh herbs for like $1 a pound.
Bottom line: Chicagoans, go to Caputos. It rocks. Everybody else, where do I go?

it is a salvage grocery store run by Mennonites. They have really good prices and Amish cheese. They don't flout their religion on you, just provide a service.

we also have Duffy's Store, which is connected with a grocery distributor. They sell stuff that the stores don't sell, mostly health food/ethnic food, and it too is a good price.

3. There's a small market I haven't tried yet |
|
called Derrico's Market in the Italian area of town. I haven't been able to get there because I never have any "real" money to spend, but I will soon. I love real Italian stuff. Makes my mouth water.

6. Why does the bread in grocery stores always stink? |
|
I think that they appeal too much to lowest common denominator, plus they probably lack the superhot ovens of a real bakery.

7. I go to a mom and pop store down the street. |
|
It's mostly fruits and veggies, but I get a lot there. I don't do large supermarkets anymore. I try to find a few smaller stores and hit them when I need food.

Fresh sushi made while you watch. Organic foods. Huge deli with all kinds of exotic/ethnic dishes. Fresh produce. Espresso Bar. Vitamins and supplements. Teas and chai. Exotic cheeses and breads. It is the perfect grocery store.

12. Not much of a choice here. Kroger, I suppose. |

We are getting a Super Target in the college town in which I work, so I'll certainly be shopping there.
When I lived in Texas, I loved Nicks in Port Arthur, and I still go back there to buy his crawfish Boudain.

Okay, if I was putting on airs I would say Trader Joe's (2 Buck Chuck- good stuff) or Whole Foods because they have all the organic la-di-da.. but.. truth be told you can find me at Ralph's. And I live next door to a "celebrity Ralph's", where I saw Anna Nicole Smith buying melons. Honestly.
