Why does Green Tea have to taste like boiled grass?
I've been drinking Twinings Green Tea, which is better than most, but it still has that "luscious lawn" after taste. :-(

A teaspoon of sugar helps; so does a bit of lemon juice ... but does anyone have any suggestions that will make it taste like more like "normal" tea?

4. LOL! That's a good question ...

I guess I should have explained ...

My cholesterol is high and I've been told that green tea helps to lower it. I'm doing other things to lower my cholesterol, but I figure every little bit helps, so I'm giving green tea a try, too. :-)

3. Try another brand
I like green tea with jasmine. Someone I know likes green tea with mint.
Also, you can try white tea -- it's supposed to have even more antioxidants than green. However, it can be pretty pricey.
Celestial Seasonings has some white tea at a reasonable price.

9. Somebody posted this site a while back....
Scroll down to read about green teas.
I want to change flavors, too, so that I don't have to sweeten it to stand it.
I like their tea pots, too. :)

I like their "samplers" - it'll be nice to try the flavors before buying full boxes of tea and discovering that I hate it, LOL! :-)

10. Twinings is not very good, IMHO
Nothing seems to compare, for me, to Stash. It's one of the few that looks green when steeped. Two suggestions: 1) make it very strong (I use 4 bags) and it tastes sort of like beer, especially first thing in the morning. 2) Drink it straight, all day, every day and you may soon crave the bitter, freshly mowed flavor. :-)

13. "freshly mowed flavor"
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 08:40 PM by BattyDem

LOL! Yeah .. that pretty much describes it. I'm definitely going to try Stash. They have different blends of green tea, so I'm sure I'll find at least one that I like. :-)

It's funny ... I love tea and I've always tried different flavors and blends, but green tea is very different than anything I've ever had. I'm not used to tea tasting so ... organic! ;-)

17. Oddly enough, straight green tea is the only kind I like
I'm not a tea drinker at all save for the green stuff. Perhaps your taste for pekoe and oolong has biased your palate. ;-)

18. That may be true.

My father was never a tea drinker, but he began drinking green tea when he got very ill. He drank "Gunpowder" from Barnie's Gourmet Coffee and Tea Company (it's been discontinued). It was very strong and he loved it. I'm a life-long tea drinker and I took one sip ... and spit it out, LOL!

He said that the health benefits of green tea have been proven for Chinese varieties but not Japanese.

22. You never steep green tea for more than a few minutes. Take the
kettle off before it boils. Green tea will taste much better if you don't treat it like regular tea. And try some milk too. Very healthy.

23. I think it taste fishy. But if you make it weaker it doesn't taste bad.
I prefer it over black tea iced as well. But you have to let it cool in the fridge before it's good iced - that applies to black tea too.

I like green tea. Especially iced and lightly sweetened. A real Texas thirst quencher, almost as good as lemonade!

25. Try honey
I add a little dab of honey when I drink a cup of green tea. It won't make it taste like normal tea, but does sweeten it pretty good.

26. here's the good stuff ...
the brand is Yogi Tea ... i buy it at my local "Whole Market" ...

i used to find most green teas too bitter ... this stuff has "kombucha" in it and it tastes great ... i drink it straight (i.e. no sugar) ...

they make it in caf and decaf ...

31. I love green tea
and I drink it plain. But, I'm used to the flavor.

Some people like it with honey in it to sweeten it up. For some reason, honey is better than sugar in green tea. :)

If you like the health benefits of Green Tea, however, but don't like it, think about switching to Rooibos (Red) Tea. It's usually from South Africa (or southern African countries), and it's mild in flavor, de-caffeinated, and has many health benefits. They also make some great flavored types.

I love it!
