I lost my mother tonight
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 10:54 PM by samplegirl
After a 2 month struggle with pneumonia after breaking her hip.
She made her home with me for the last 10 years.
God my house is gonna be empty for a long long time. Not to mention
my heart. She was 90 but no other words than just a complete
joy everyday.

113. Wow, what a beautiful thing to say... I had a poor relationship --
with my mother.

Hope someday my daughter will say, "She was 90 but no other words than just a complete joy everyday." I hope the end was peaceful. RIP to samplegirl's mother.

feeling of being lonely, knowing they're gone. But I guess that no one is truly gone if someone still carries them in their heart.

70. I have so many
from everything to her Irish folklore to all her goofy little rhymes
she had taught me then my daughter.
She was a remarkable woman, strong and very giving. She made the
best meatballs I had ever eaten for someone Irish.
She spent 30 years in the Hospital as a Ward Clerk. She worked
many years for the Election board. She hated George Bush and
rallied for Kerry.
I guess one of my favorite stories is the day she dressed me for
my halloween party at school on the wrong day. Good thing she
dressed me for the part....a Clown!

57. Samplegirl, please accept my most heartfelt condolences and sympathies
for your loss tonight. Words really don't adequately express how sorry I am to hear your news. I lost my Mother in April 1996, and it really doesn't feel like its been 9+ years.

Thank you for posting your mom's picture... What a beautiful woman, even at the age of 90! How remarkable... She has such a kind, sincere face, and lovely smile! How lucky you were to have such a wonderful, loving relationship, and have her live with you for the last 10 years! That in itself, is quite a gift to you. Think of the memories you now have, and will cherish for the rest of your life. Surely you were such a blessing to her too, in ministering to her needs during these last few months. That was your gift to her!

I wish I could be there to give you lots of hugs, because I know you must need them. I do hope you have friends or family there, to be with you, and listen to you. You know you have your DU family here...

Sending you lots of these:      and please know you and your family are in my prayers....

82. In this photo, here eyes are full of love. You have been very lucky.
Looks like she was, too.

May her love carry you through this difficult time.

As I said many times over the last six months to my husband, who lost his beloved mother at only 67, "She knew how much you loved her". It looks like your mother was also well and deeply loved. That is a comfort, I hope.

You both, and your family will be in my prayers tonight.

of your mother. May you be comforted by the memories in your heart. I lost my Mum a few years ago, 9 years to be exact. The emptiness doesn't really go away, neither does the longing. The love (for me anyway) grows stronger. There is no comparison to losing a parent, neither should there be.

35. Allow me to offer you my condolences. There are no
words that will make you feel better right now; and there's only one that will help you feel better int the future:

Time.

Have our time to grieve, and do not cut it short. Then treasure your time to recover. You'll need a lot of it; I'm not going to lie to you.

Stay close to family and husband (if you have one), and friends.

They're there to help you. And let them, because they know how.

Redstone

Mothers are hard to lose.

Your love and care must have meant a great deal to both of you. Hold on to that and know that you gave her the most wonderful gift a person can ever receive. Love and care.

It's good to know that DU, besides being a torrent of us liberal types, is also an online community where we can love and support each other. I hope you are able to move easily to the point where your feelings about your mom are more about the joy of having spent precious joyful times with her and less about the loss of her. 50. Dear Samplegirl, I am so so sorry.
I lost mine about 17 years ago, in my mid-20s.It was the hardest thing I ever went through.

One little idea helped me through it: I realized that every terrible pain in my heart was positive proof of just how god-awful-lucky, unbelievably-lucky I was to ever have had her.

Maybe she will be with you, in your heart, in ways she hasn't previously been.

110. Deepest sympathy to you
what a great loss. May the many memories created over the years - including/especially in these last ones - bring you warmth and comfort when you are able to start the healing process. Take care of yourself in the meantime.

Again, greatest sympathies on your loss.

I can't give you any words of comfort. I'm sorry for the loss of that bright Soul in your life. Mine's been gone for four years. I keep her in my heart, but I'm selfish. I want my Mom back. I wish and pray for you better acceptance than I've been able to muster.
