Eeeeewwww...they discovered a dead body in the bottom of the local lake...
still inside its car...apparently it's been there 24 years or so. The girl was a student here at NMSU and went missing in 1981.

Ew, ew, eeww!

1. It happens
Just like if you have a home in Colma, CA built during the 60's chances are there is a dead body in your foundation.

15. I thought I had died and gone to heaven
Figured I'd be buried in Colma - so convenient.

A great big Rack opened up about 15 minutes from us maybe fifteen years ago.

Life is good. :hi:

3. Probably just bones after 24 years. Her poor family, not knowing
what happened to her for that long must be awful.

5. It's not even that big of a lake, or that deep.
You'd think somebody would have found SOMETHING in 24 years.

6. If she disappeared 24 years ago odds are that it wasn't that small of a
car she was in

20. Don't bet on it.
2 words.

Soap. Mummy.

They found a woman in the bottom of a lake in Japan after 9 years or so. she was intact. Her clothes had rotten off, but she was still there.

Made me rethink my plans of how I want to be disposed of when I'm gone.

17. Actually, her body could still be pretty much intact. How? Adicopere.
It's a soapy, waxy substance that much of the soft tissue can convert to in the right conditions.

Adipocere forms in and on dead animals in the absence of free oxygen but also in a wet, cool environment, such as a water burial (a drowning victim, for example), an airtight but moist crypt, or a moist grave. Regardless of casket, coffin, or burial shroud, adipocere formation is possible in an underground burial. Its odds increase with a corpse inside a casket enclosed by a burial vault. An overweight body contains enough water to begin adipocere formation in a casket, sealed or not. Regardless of the triggering mechanism, the end result is popularly known as a "soap mummy".

Here's a link to find out more if you have a morbid sense of curiosity: http://adipocere.homestead.com/introduction.html

18. No, the only juicy stuff on this body
was the mud and slime covering it. It's pretty much a skeleton. They think it's this particular girl because her i.d. was still in the car, as well as some personal items belonging to her. Amazing, huh?
