Would you want your spouse to buy you a car as a gift?
I am seriously thinking of buying my hubby a car as a father's day gift....
before any of you go ga ga...I am thinking of buying a used car and one that is a manual (stick) because for years he has been driving automatics to please me.

I just found a car at a dealer using one of those car dealer web sites and it looks like one he would like...but I am just a bit hesitant....cuz what if he doesn't like it or hates it....

So is it too personal a thing for guys to have a wife pick out a car for them????

1. I'd never do it personally or want it done to me..
Not to be ungrateful, what your doing is a wonderful idea but I wouldnt want my hub to buy me a car.

First off.. we have TOTALLY different tastes in cars.. I have a Jeep, he has a Blazer. I HATE his car. He HATES my car. When we were looking for a car for him, I'm like lets go up the Jeep dealer and look to see what they have. We ended up at the Chevy dealer.

I dont like Chevys, I like Fords, and hes the opposite. I like automati cs, he likes manuals.

If you ARE ABSOLUTELY going to do it, let him in on it and let him pick what he wants reasonably. Just my opinion :)

I still think its a damn nice gift and very thoughtful on your part!

4. well from a practical stand point...
we have two cars currently and one is nearing the 100K mark and it is a bit of a gas guzzler...(minivan)...great car but not good for commuting the distance that he does.....but it is paid for and we will drive it into the ground...

we have talked about it and I know what he likes ...but I am still hesitant...

2. *cringe* Some guys are weird about their cars.
It's such a personal decision. I think you should tell him that you think he deserves a car for Father's Day, and show him what model you're planning on buying. I'd involve him in the decision.

6. Yeah
Take him to the lot and turn him loose. Tell him can have anything on the lot less than XXXX dollars. He'll love you mightily. I would shy away from making that big of an investment on something your not 100% sure of. Let him kick a few tires and be all manly on the lot. I bet it works. Good luck.

3. Well I would. My hubby
knows me well enough to know what I like and I would love the gesture.

5. Does he have a mechanic friend?
I would talk to him first....guys tend to talk about cars a lot and usually about their dream cars or ones they wish they had. He could give you some advice and then see if he could check out the one you found.

Then again my mechanic calls me up wanting to know if I want a Rolls Royce. He bought a pair of low mileage 71's....I guess he figured since I own a couple of old big Plymouth's the Rolls would give me class. :eyes:

7. Wow your hubby is
lucky to be thought of with such a gift but personally I would really want to drive the car and sit in it first. Can you take a pic and wrap it in a box and give him that and see what his reaction is first? Maybe the dealer could hold it for you with a deposit.

10. I surprised my wife with a car on her birthday.
She was in shock at first but it was a car I was sure she would like.
