Oh, chickens, forgive me! I ate one of you last night!
I feel awful. I ate a chicken breast last night. Mrs. IconCat is 5.5 months pregnant, and has had an insatiable desire for chicken, despite being an ardent pro-animal-rights supporter and strict vegetarian for over 15 years. Pregnancy has done some strange things to her, this being one of them.

So, anyway, we had an organically-fed free range chicken last night. I fed some ducks today to atone for my transgression.

Sorry, chickens of the world!

3. As long as you properly thanked it
for giving his life for your nourishment, the chicken forgives you. All they want is good treatment and to be recognized as the noble creatures they are - I'm sure of that even though it's kind of "woo woo".

5. That happened to me too, when I was pregnant I would have killed the
chicken myself, I wanted to eat it so badly. :(

I had been a vegetarian, but when I got pregnant I craved meat like some kind of freak, particularly chicken.

29. Yup...and I still eat it.
I had only been a veg for about a year or so (I had planned on being one forever at that point)...and all of a sudden I *really* wanted meat. That actually should have been the sign I was pregnant, because it came out of nowhere.

Finally I just ate some. Because of laziness/tasted goodness/mild concern about getting enough protein/iron for my baby, I kept eating it.

Now she's just out of kindergarten and both of us eat meat, for a number of (not very good) reasons.

6. I craved canned boyardee spaghetti.
Even thinking of that stuff now makes me want to :puke:.

But I think you should listen to pregnancy cravings!

God knows what kind of nourishment my body thought it could get out of canned pasta, though.

I, however, really have no excuse for eating any of it.

7. What is up with the chicken craving during pregnancy?
When I was knocked up (this is back before I went veg, LeftyKid was about 10 mos when that happened) I had this intense craving for chicken enchiladas from a specific restaurant here in town, and if I didn't get them once a week or so, I was a flaming bitch.

She had quite a few friends back in the dorms who had to be talked out of trying to liberate a few critters.

30. Thank you for the absolution.
:) I was feeling kind of guilty about the salmon, but what's worse? Smoking the fish and eating it, or letting it all get freezer-burned and go to waste? It's a no-brainer. And as for catching it in the first place? The fish was just going to spawn and die anyway, right? So who should eat it -- the bears and seagulls or us? I think us. (I argue with myself like this all the time...)
