She's a Dutch Warmblood, sired by Consul.

12. Warmbloods are a sporting breed

that were developed in Europe, and are gaining popularity in all types of competition. Unfortunately they are rather "pricey" horses - the only way I could afford one was to breed my own, and wait for a few years.

They are nice horses, but rather slow to mature, hence the nickname "dumb-bloods".

The RCMP hold an auction every couple of years. They have their own breeding program (Hanoverians) and it is possible to get a sport horse for a decent price. The website stated in their last auction, in 2003, the horses went for an average of $14k (since the highest was 33k, there would have to have been some in the 4 digit range).

14. That's heartbreaking...

We contribute to a group down here in Pennsylvania that does the same sort of thing... they rescue horses and other large animals that have been ill-cared. Great organization called LAPS. I just rode in a horseshow they sponsored, and have helped trailer some of these unfortunate animals to a shelter and foster home.

You need to install the QuickTime plug-in, and have high-speed internet. This plug-in is available at QuickTime. It works with either Mac or Windows, and has quite a bit better playback quality than .wmv or Real, I must say.
