I was talking to a young woman in San Diego today
I'm in Calgary, and from time to time, in my job, I have to call down to the states (I'm an account exec for a news magazine). Now, this is the funny part, I was telling this gal that I was calling from Calgary, Alberta, Canada (I always give the whole thing when I call the U.S.). She says, "I know where that is! I'm originally from Edmonton." I commiserated with her, of course. Anyway, long story short, we started talking and she said when she moved down there she couldn't believe how bad the education system was. She was in high school at the time and because of her great education here in Canada, she went from being an average student (in Canada) to being the valedictorian at her American high school. I'm really not giving the whole story enough flavour, but I think you get my point.

2. Between them, my two sisters have had maybe 10 foreign exchange
students from all over the world. All of them laughed at our high school curriculum (Colorado Springs and Topeka).

I was down in Great Falls, Montana a few years ago (love to shop at the Target). Anyway, was in a bar and the bartender (very friendly nice woman) was running a contest. I was the only non-American in the crowd. The challenge: name as many of the state capitals as you can. Guess who won? Yee Haw, I had free drinks all night! 'Course if was American beer <insert Monty Python joke here>, but still.
