I finally sent a letter to the property managers-Apartment living sucks |
|
Boy, have I had a bad night, after a bad week. I think I was within my rights to finally write the property managers who "manage" the place where I live (I've had to call 3 times tonight, about 10-11 times in the last week, more than enough)
Kids and parents throwing things off balconies, kids (anywhere from 4 to 9 of them) playing and screaming in front of my apartment, kicking balls that hit windows and balconies, etc. Why me?
I have become the neurotic apartment dweller I've always feared becoming.
So security here doesn't want to be babysitters, fine. They try to speak to the parents of these kids, but get hassles from them. :( But I'm tired of having to complain, and because I live out front, I get the brunt of the annoyances. Hopefully, not anymore.
I wrote the property manager, may not be much, but at least I made my case. Tenants deserve to be able to enjoy the places they live in, so what we just hand over rent every month for nothing? I really wish I could move but there's nothing out there right now. :(

...call them. Raise hell, and call the cops if you need to, but tell the prop. mgrs. you're going to do so if nothing is done by them.
They generally don't like cops on the property unless the cops live there.
Tell them that when you call the cops, you'll also call the press.
Nothing like bad publicity to get the attention of a landlord.

their main office is in the building next to the one I work at! :)
Thanks, I like your style ( I can only call during the day anyways, but the letter is a start)

8. Absolutely send the letter |
|
If you need to go to court with them at some point (to get out of your lease, or if they hassle you about the deposit or something) a phone call doesn't mean jack but a written complaint is a big deal if they can't prove they fixed the problem.
Send it certified mail, they'll know you mean business. Then call to follow up and see what they're doing about it.

My building is a 1920's high-rise that has not been rennovated since the great depression it seems. The dining room walls are literally crumbling but after two weeks, the wall is still on the floor and I am so tired of dealing with bullshit.

5. sounds like my neighborhood although |

there is single family housing here, large yards and it is an upscale neighborhood. Lots of brats around and the fucking mothers and fathers don't teach their fuckhead brats to respect the property of others. No matter how many times I told these fucks to stay off my property, they looked at me like I was some head case and/or unreasonable. I finally called the city and once the city's Code Enforcement car was parked out in front of my house, all of a sudden these fuckhead brats aren't playing on my property anymore. The parents finally realized I meant business, but only because they realized I was ready to get them fined

thing is we have pavement in front (plus there are a few businesses on the main floor).
It's like every night there's a new batch, or the same batch of kids. I like kids, but well behaved ones. They are supposed to go to the park, not make the front a park. :( And throwing things off balconies, but that's automatic eviction (or it used to be)
:( oh well.

only one reason the kids do this stuff and that's the way the parents teach them. The parents are either ignorant or they are sociopaths. I have had arguments with people on both sides of my house because the kids were throwing things into my garden beds (like league baseballs, basketballs), their unleashed 70 lb. dogs were using my property as a toilet (totally against the law), breaking tree limbs on my oak tree playing soccer, etc. I have never lived next to assholes this ignorant and all they seem to understand is the law (the force of the law and fines for trespassing, vandalism, not leashing their dogs, etc). They are all pugs too. Maybe they think I am supposed to consider it an honor and thrill that their brats and dogs mess up my property. Primal scream.
Sometimes people just don't get it. Then they look at you like some badass because you don't want them on your property or ypou want peace and quiet.
