Possessed cat story

A friend of mine told me this story today. I could hardly believe it.

She was walking her cockapoo a couple of weeks ago, and out of the blue this demon cat sprang out from his yard and pounced on her dog, scratching and spitting. My friend managed to get the two separated without getting her hands involved in the fray; and the cat backed off.

She picked up her dog, who was understandably freaked, and walked away from the house where the cat lived. Then the cat turned around and tried to get the dog again, clawing its way up my friend's leg, and seriously lacerating her flesh. At this point, neighbors came out to help her, and she went to the hospital, her leg swollen, bruised and bleeding from the scratches and some deep punture wounds.

She's been on heavy-duty antibiotics ever since, and is having trouble getting her stomach to feel right again. Incidentally, the cat was totally up-to-date on shots. The owner is apparently not very forthcoming in compensating my friend for her co-payments and time lost from work as a result of the incident. :(

Suddenly, my brat cat seems like a sweetie...

This is not the sort of dog that particularly cares about cats. It's possible the cat was spooked by a dog, and suffers PTSD as a result, though...

They must be licensed and you are responsible for your cat's behavior. One shouldn't be terrorized by a demon cat when simply out walking. I think she needs to make sure the neighbor pays her expenses.

Even if I wasn't concerned about FeLeuk or Feline AIDS, I'd be hesitant to let them spend time outdoors, because it's no fun seeing your pet come home in shreds; and I'd feel terrible if one of my animals hurt someone else's pet...

8. Cats are fiercely territorial.

My male cat nearly leaped through the window screen whenever another cat came into the yard. And it was accompanied with that deep-throated yrowl that scared even me.

Also, cat bites and scratches are very dangerous to other animals and to humans. It's a good thing she got medical attention right away.

9. As long as cats are UTD on shots and all...

You're usually okay, but still need the typical antibiotics and all. I've started a VERY small trap-neuter-release program in my area for stray cats and when trying to catch an unneutered male once got myself bit. Since the cat essentially belonged to no one, I had to go every week for like a month and get like 3 shots each time plus take a daily antibiotic and something else (the name of the med escapes me). If the cat is UTD though it shouldn't be too big of a problem aside from pain. It's always good to seek immediate medical attention for a bite by ANY animal though. That being said, the owner of the cat should take some responsibility. I have 7 outdoor fur babies (all were former strays I've neutered and care for) and HATE that they are outside. It just isn't safe for owners or cats to be outdoors. Cats should really ALWAYS stay indoors if at all humanly possible.

Maybe the cat is unneutered? Un-fixed cats are EXTREMELY territorial, MUCH, MUCH moreso than a fixed cat (yet another reason to spay or neuter).
