12. My son used to work in a music store and sold lots of Fenders
He says it's pretty hard to tell without getting a good look at it.

And he agrees with you, tmfun.

3. what type of music are you looking to play?
before anyone told you what to think of it, they would have to play it. and even then youre subject to somone else's personal preference... best way to do something is to get one in your hands and make sure you like it... if this is your first or one of your early guitars... you can rely on other's advice... fender generally makes decent stuff and backs it up pretty well with warranties, but as mentioned before, check the country of origin.

would help if you told us what youre lookin to play... as well.

9. blues, old school r and b, old school style rock n' roll
I play mostly bass in bands with other people, and I already own an Epiphone Les Paul guitar, which I love.

I was originall thinking of either getting a hollowbody or a Telecaster---but this guitar is kind of like both, and with the P-90s

4. just from the looks, i don't really dig it.
Edited on Thu Jun-16-05 05:48 PM by SlavesandBulldozers
but its kind of stupid to just judge it on the looks. of course, looks are pretty much what I shoot for in a guitar, because I'm not particularly intelligent.:)

on edit: I'm one of thos broke people with really expensive tastes that never gets the guitar I want because I can't afford it, thusly I have a piece of shit epi to this day so - again - don't listen to me.

you should check out the guitar den some time to get a look at some beauts. lots of custom luthiered oldies too! i'd fuck most of these guitars. http://guitarden.com/index_1024x768.html

10. I usually prefer Gibsons
I despise Stratocasters---:puke:

I love Telecasters and Jazzmasters though. This guitar is a little of both, and partially hollow

I'm pretty underwhelmed.

on edit: Sorry. Meant that about the model being discussed. I own a Tele and a Strat, wouldn't consider letting either of them go.

7. Here are some customer reviews.
They seem to be very positive, but keep in mind that people do have a tendency to overrate guitars that they spent money on.

13. The only "great" Fenders are the originals . . .
. . . or the high dollar replicas of the originals, or the high dollar current issues.

Not to say that this guitar you want won't work for you, but you need to play it through your amp, and with your band, before you commit.

20. some customer reviews
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 05:26 PM by cleofus1
it's all about your taste...and how you feel playing it....but this is a couple of reviews fro people who actually baught and played this particular guitar....

"I love this guitar. I play blues and this guitar has a fat tone but it can also sound thin (bridge pickup and tone control) This is my Oprah guitar, it can go fat to thin and back to fat! HA HA! Would love separate pickup volumes but I still love the guitar."

" just got my Vintage White TC-90, and I'm amazed by this guitar. It really sounds great! With original Seymour Duncan P-90's, this is a guitar worth more than it costs. My bandmates think this is a very cool looking guitar, and you have to admit, that counts...:-) I also have a Gibson 65' Firebird, and even though that's a much more expensive guitar, it will rest in it's case for a while. I'm not kidding! Buy it and get a killer guitar!"

"THIS GUITAR IS FOR THE GUITARIST WHO REALLY WANTS PROFESSIONAL SOUND. THE GUITAR HAS SUSTAIN THAT IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE. THE SOUND OF THE LEGENDARY P 90'S IS TIMELESS. IT HANDLES DISTORTION AND OVERDRIVE VERY WELL. THE NECK IS FAST THE TUNERS ARE WONDERFUL. I HAVE BEEN PLAYING GUITAR FOR 45 YEARS AND HAVE MANY GUITARS. THE TC 90 IS SIMPLY A MUST HAVE GUITAR."

"I've owned a lot of amazing guitars. Anything from Les Pauls to SGs to Jacksons. They're all good for their respective styles. I was looking for a semi-hollow that wouldn't break my budget. I noticed this beast right off the bat. I sat down with it and fell in love! It handled jazz lines with ease, and punk worked well. Metal was easy, and so was classical! I've never played a more versatile guitar! It's pure art!"

29. If it sounds and plays good, and stays in tune, it's a good guitar!
That's the sum total of my criteria. :) Unless you own another guitar that has the same basic sound and other properties.

Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 11:08 PM by zulchzulu
You can have the best guitar in the World, but if you don't have the chops, it doesn't matter either way...unless you're a collector.

I have a nice Fender Telecaster willed to me from the family of a friend who died who I used to play music with regularly, and it is an awesome guitar if only because the spirit it still has packed in the fretboard.

It's all how you look at a guitar.
