Anyone here heard of Verizon Fios (hi-speed fiber optic internet)?
http://www22.verizon.com/FiosForHome/channels/fios/root/about_fios.asp

I may be able to get it in the near future, and I'm curious to find out if it's actually 30+ mbps, and if this system clamps upload speeds like Comcast, et. al.

A true fiber optic internet system all the way to the door would be incredible, and if available, and good, I'd sign on in a hot second.

1. I know Verizon workers are currently installing the fiber optics in the
ground. Guess it depends on where you live and how complete the installation is in your area.

2. It's already available here.
They installed the system earlier in the spring, and the online address checker says it's available at my address. I'm just curious as to if it's a stable system.

It's being tiered-- 2mbps is $30, and 15mbps is $50. The 30mbps is $200, but as much as I'd love that speed I could handle the 15 okay-- my Comcast account is currently somewhere around 1.5-2.0.

3. Available on East Coast
Check out the forums on BroadbandReports.com. It's reportedly available in MA, NYC, and NJ.

5. Verizon can't even get me DSL
I have Verizon as my telephone provider, they won't even talk to me to give me an idea when DSL will be available around here.

No broadband of any kind available for me unless I go satellite. $600 install and $100 a month pretty much puts it out of my budget.

I do get a blazing speed of about 40 kbps on a good day with my dial up.

It SUUUUCKS!!!!!
