I'm thinking about taking my kid up to Neshoba for the Klan trial tomorrow
It's the Killen trial for the murders of Goodman, Schwerner, and Chaney. I'm an historian, and most of my undergrad and MA work was centered on civil rights here, so this is very interesting to me.

I just want to see that bastard as he's wheeled into the court house.

I wonder if we can get seats in the courtroom. If not, we can just hang around downtown and watch the spectacle, and then I can take him to that cool Choctaw waterpark near the casinos.

I really want to watch some of this trial. It's a huge event in Mississippi right now. Maybe the Klan will do something stupid tomorrow.

What do y'all think?

3. I might silently protest, like I did the time the Klan marched in my...
hometown. As they paraded by, my son and I held hands and very OBVIOUSLY turned our backs to them. As protesters at the parade saw what we were doing, they, too, held hands and silently turned their backs.

The Klan feasts on division and controversy. We didn't give it to them. (Although some redneck guy through a beer bottle at them. :D )

9. I think we have a New Black Panther's Party here.
I know we still have some old fuckers who were in the Klan during the Civil Rights Movement, but they aren't organized.

2. That's a good idea.
It'll be a real good learning experience for him. I've always been furious at the fact that those sons of bitches didn't get punished for what they did. I just hope for your sake that there isn't any KKK or Neo-Nazi led counter protest.

5. I'm not afraid of those fuckers.
All they are, here anyway, are social misfits for whom the Klan provides them some sort of family.

Look at their stupid website:

www.mwkkkk.com

There's like, what, four members?

4. Wasn't the guy wheeled out on a gurney today? He
may not show, so you might want to check out a schedule for tomorrow so you don't waste your time driving if nothing is happening.

7. From what I've read, he's due back in court tomorrow morning.
But, you're right, anything could happen and he might stay in the hosspital a couple of days. Chicken.

8. How do Mississipians feel about the Klan?
Here in NW AR I was surprised and pleased when I discovered that the average person is embarrassed by them and don't like them or their message.

10. Exactly like the Arkansans you know.

11. It's history in the making.
If any media outlets down there have anything on their websites about the trial that would be cool to see.

14. I think that he could learn alot from it.
Just sit down and talk to him first about what to expect and about anything that might happen. Let him know that he can quietly ask questions to you at any time. And plan for any situations (anything that might get out of hand).
