2. I'll second that.
Nearly everything Martin Short has done has been funny to me, but it's like Glick is ANTI-funny.

3. well, ya see....
there's this GUY, ya know, and Oh my, he takes umbrage at celebrities who...well, ya see, its like this...
(sorry was trying to type like jiminy glick)

anywho...martin short is spoofing local tv interviewers who interview celebrities but have no clue about them nor care. If you don't have one of these guys in real life on your local station, consider yourself lucky. I've lived several different places, and seen the equivalent of a Jiminy Glick in about 5 cities. Essentially, they're hacks, whose only qualifications are having a cameraman in tow and the ability to talk inanely.

its a one note impersonation gig. Which makes it a normal Martin Short venue.
He's very talented, but he's not always that savvy on how his talent should be used.

but even after all that, I have laughed at Jiminy Glick a few times, I don't think its that bad.

4. Right it is a parody of celebrity/entertainment reporters
Who very often are much more interested in promoting themselves rather than covering the story.

5. I think he's hilarious
Every time I've caught his show on Comedy Central, I've laughed myself silly. He's just so clueless.

6. Me too
I was "between jobs" when his talk show was on and the first time Jimminy guest hosted I thought I was going to bust a gut.

Too funny.

16. Startling.
It's a great make-up job, and I didn't spot him right away myself.

Can't seem to find a picture of Miss Gathercole anywhere.

11. It's genius
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 08:58 AM by DS1
Just brilliant, it's a mix of slapstick, scathing commentary on the world of celebrity interviews, clueless reporters, late night show formulas *go to audience members, band leaders to bounce ideas off and laugh at everything*

Then you got the cranky old woman in the crowd, exactly NOT what a show host should have as his go-to audience member, and Michael McKean with the horrible rub-on tan and a fucking HARP!!!

What's NOT to get?

Edit to credit the correct actor

13. In all fairness
I've only seen the JG character when he was a "guest" on someone else's show, not the JG show itself.

17. That's Michael McKean, not Guest.
He's funnier than Martin Short on the Glick show, I think.

21. To Take the Copycat Thread Question Seriously: It's Merv GRIFFIN
(Yes, I'm unhip enough not to have gotten the copycattering.)

Marty is uneven, but when he's funny he's effing hilarious. While he might ALSO be parodying MANY clueless t.v. personalities, I am pretty sure the MAIN one is Merv GRIFFIN, who has that spacey, airhead, "drifty" (a Navy term) quality. Plus, I think GRIFFIN actually did have an old lady fan who went to every show. That said, I always found the harp guy absolutely hilarious and never knew it was McKEAN. I actually wondered where they would find a throwaway character actor who was really first rate.
