It's time to come clean
now be honest, where were YOU last night?

Last night I listened to the DSM hearing on C-SPAN. Add that with exhorbatant amounts of liquor and cigarettes, and it was a fucking party in my pants!
I also ate two popsicles at midnight.

what did you do?

22. Goth show at local bar
Headliner was a local band I really like, called Dreamchild. (Their name comes from an interesting movie, a fictional account of the old age of Alice Liddell, who was Lewis Carroll's model for Alice in Wonderland.) The band consists of a guitar-playing husband with high end engineering skills, and his wife, who sings, plays harp and bass and percussion, and has stage presence in industrial quantities. They use guitar synthesizer and looping devices to make more noise than you'd expect out of two people. They're often compared to Dead Can Dance, and I would agree except that they write actual songs with actual subjects, usually scary myths-- they've got songs about Medusa, Salome, and the severed head of Orpheus.

That said, it wasn't one of their better gigs-- they were sloppy.

There was also a somewhat similar duo called Seven Sunless Days, the main difference being that the guitar was just a guitar, but there was a bunch of extra noise (electronica) coming out of a sequencer, while the girl just sang and sorta wafted about the stage. The music was way too Wax-Trax-ish for my tastes-- although I might have had an overreaction due to a couple girl fans wearing cowboy-style hats (in imitation of Al Jourgenson and RevCo? XNASA, if you're reading, I was thinking of you, and wishing I could get your critique of it).

And the opening act was a young band called Fountainhead, punk rock throwbacks who hope to grow up to be Gang of Four or Buzzcocks or some such. They have promise-- they actually understand dynamics!-- but they need seasoning, like better melodies, and a bigger bass amp.

23. Made dinner for the kids, did laundry,
intended to be on the mod conference call, but my eight year old melted down five minutes prior to the call. She cried for almost an hour about how sad she was that she was leaving third grade and her teacher. When that was over, I tried to clean up a little for her First Communion party tomorrow, but she kept getting up.

My son, the one who barely passed seventh grade, thinks she is crazy. I think I do, too.
