Taiwanese soul-return attempt blocked
Taiwanese abandon Yasukuni ceremony to 'take back' souls of conscripted relatives
-----------

The bereaved families of Taiwanese people who died in World War II after being conscripted by Japan's now defunct Imperial Army abandoned holding a ceremony Tuesday to take back the victims' souls enshrined at Yasukuni Shrine to avoid a clash with ultrarightists.

"We had intended to take back the souls of our ancestors. It's regrettable that we couldn't do so," one of them said.

Dozens of Taiwanese people arrived at Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo Tuesday morning for their planned ceremony.

1. Now can someone tell me why the ultra-right wingers would
give a damn? I mean from the Imperial Army's point of view the Taiwanese were only fit to provide cannon fodder and comfort women. You would think they would want those second class souls of their shrine.:sarcasm:
