I grew up when Queen was extremely popular
and of course I was/am still a big fan. On my iTunes party shuffle the song, Who wants to live forever? , just came on. I really think it is one of the poignant songs around especially if you consider that Freddie Mercury probably sang it knowing that he was dying of AIDS at the time. Really great song!

There’s no time for us
There’s no place for us
What is this thing that builds our dreams yet slips away
From us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever....?

There’s no chance for us
It’s all decided for us
This world has only one sweet moment set aside for us

Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?

Who dares to love forever?
When love must die

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today

Who waits forever anyway?

11. I remember watching a show after Freddie died and they were talking
about Queen and Freddie. One of the people they were talking to was Paul McCartney and he was saying that when the great book of rock & roll is written the Freddie and Queen will be in the top ten all time greatest bands. I thought that was a cool statement from a guy who was in the band that will make it in the number one slot.

4. How about this one from the last album the recorded together
Show Must Go On

Empty spaces - what are we living for
Abandoned places - I guess we know the score
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for...
Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
Hold the line, does anybody want to take it anymore
The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
Inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on

Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for ?
I guess I'm learning (I'm learning learning learning)
I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning (turning turning turning)
Round the corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free
The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah yeah
Ooh, inside my heart is breaking
My make-up may be flaking
But my smile still stays on

Yeah yeah, whoa wo oh oh

My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die
I can fly - my friends
The show must go on (go on, go on, go on) yeah yeah
The show must go on (go on, go on, go on)
I'll face it with a grin
I'm never giving in
On - with the show

Ooh, I'll top the bill, I'll overkill
I have to find the will to carry on
On with the show
On with the show
The show - the show must go on
Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on
Go on, go on

23. That song is why I don't mind the remaining members touring with Rodgers
Freddie was like that. Freddie wanted them to continue.

Looking back over the last three albums Queen put out before Freddie died ("A Kind of Magic", "The Miracle", and "Innuendo") I realized that there were a lot of hidden thoughts like that...the last song on "The Miracle" was "Was it all Worth It?":

What is there left for me to do in this life
Did I achieve what I had set in my sights
Am I a happy man or is this sinking sand
Was it all worth it was it all worth it

Yeah now hear my story let me tell you about it
We bought a drum kit blew my own trumpet
Played the circuit thought we were perfect
Was it all worth it
Giving all my heart and soul and staying up all night
Was it all worth it
Living breathing rock'n'roll a godforsaken life
Was it all worth it was it all worth it all these years

Put down our money without counting the cost
It didn't matter if we won if we lost
Yes we were vicious yes we could kill
Yes we were hungry yes we were brill
We served a purpose like a bloody circus
We were so dandy we love you madly

Was it all worth it
Living breathing rock'n'roll this godforsaken life
Was it all worth it was it all worth it
When the hurly burly's done

We went to Bali saw God and Dali
So mystic surrealistic
Was it all worth it yeah yeah
Giving all my heart and soul staying up all night
Was it all worth it
Living breathing rock'n'roll this never ending fight
Was it all worth it was it all worth it
Yes it was a worthwhile experience

It was worth it

I believe Freddie knew he had AIDS way back in 1988 when "The Miracle" came out.

27. You're right
I just so wish he hadn't gotten sick. There are a few entertainers that I really miss, Freddie, Johnny Cash, Stevie Ray Vaughn (I actually met him), Michael Hutchence to name a few. Damn it!!!!!!! The only one of that group that lived a full life was Johnny and I still think he went too early.

13. I still love Queen!
Sometimes when I say that, I get an odd look.

However, I don't know anyone who doesn't enjoy at least a few of their songs.

Also, they are one of the few bands who had their own sound. Even if you don't hear Freddie - you'll likely be able to pick out a song as being Queen just by the music.

20. I Looooooove Queen!
I also grew up when they were at their peak.

Here's one of my favs. I miss Freddie too. :(

Can anybody find me somebody to love?
Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord!
Somebody, somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own -
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord - somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me - somebody to love?

(He works hard)

Everyday - I try and I try and I try -
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
Got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah - yeah yeah yeah

Oh Lord
Somebody - somebody
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
I'm ok, I'm alright
Ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord!

Find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

But touch my tears with your lips
Touch my world with your fingertips
And we can have forever
And we can love forever
Forever is our today
Who wants to live forever
Who wants to live forever?
Forever is our today

This is a song that has to be heard.

RIP, Freddie. And thanks.

34. BTW
the song, Dragon Attack , from The Game is a wonderfully rythmic song with a great bass line that is completely underrated. It never made it on any greatest hits album but I count it as one of the best they ever did. Of course I was a bass player back in the day.

40. I remember Queen their first time around.
I was more of a Who, Kinks, BB King fan, but the humor that they put in their music was so enticing. I always thought that Kiss ripped them off, and couldn't reproduce the level of humor, so amped up the presentation.
