2. Good idea asking the DUers for help. |
|
Two DUers helped me move out of my apartment, and two other DUers helped me move into my house.
I'd be there if I were close by. Bribery works. Pizza and beer. :D

My advice is to move it first. Every thing else will be simple by comparison.

7. the plan is to get it on the truck first. |
|
Of course, then it comes off last...

8. Are there stairs at the new house? |
|
You might invest in a couple of furniture dollies. I bet you can rent them.

Three finished floors. The piano needs to go on the main level, which is the second from ground level.

The front steps make a nifty right-angle turn halfway up, too. Fortunately, that staircase is about 4 feet wide with a good sized landing at the turn.

10. No, the first thing on the truck should be an iced keg of beer |
|
Then after the truck is loaded and finally unloaded, that will be the last thing out, as a reward.

There will be beer, most certainly, but we learned the hard way years ago to have it at arm's length from the assembled throng. :D

I'm doing an addition in the next few months and I gotta move for a few days while they cut the entrances out.
How big is the piano? I need to get mine tuned - thanks for the reminder :)

5. just a standard upright. |
|
Not huge, but still heavy as shit. When we moved in nine years ago, we were able to catty-corner the truck to the front porch and move the beast straight off the truck to the front door. Now, we have a porch rail and a picket fence that will require that we muscle the little darling down six steps, through a 90 degree turn and a gate, and up the truck ramp.
You're coming, right?

14. good luck on your move |
|
too bad about the piano, though I helped a friend of mine move a couple years ago, and they had an upright piano too. He was wise and had lots of friends to help; I don't know how tough the piano was, I was wiser and found something more manageable to be carrying during those "windows of opportunity"
ps - I'm never sharp at 8 AM

left that to his son, son's friends and nephews. It's great to have a group of 18-20 somethings who haven't done a lot of moving, and think of it as an opportunity to show what manly-men they are. :7
