I know I know but I was in a hurry and wanted to make one stop instead of three. Anyway, when I got up to the register, the man in front of me was buying a toilet seat. He looked at me and smiled and said "The hardware store wanted $15 for this and I am only paying $7 for it here." So I said, "Well that hardware store probably pays its employees a living wage and gives them affordable health care." He look stunned, like he had never thought of that before. Then he smiled and said "But I am benefitting by saving money." And I replied, "Yes you are but that $8 you saved here will just come out of your taxes to help support the WalMart employees who are eligible for Medicaid and other govt benefits." He then said "Thank you for giving me food for thought."
Well after he had paid and it was my turn, the clerk who rang me up said "Thank you so much for what you said to that man. So few people realize how badly WalMart screws its employees."
So sometimes it's okay to shop at WalMart. Folks need educatin.:)

Avoiding Wal-Mart is a HARD thing to do when it is the only place within a hundred miles that has half of the stuff you need 24/7.

3. I honestly rarely go there anymore |
|
I live in a large metropolitan area. So I fortunately do have other choices. But I had to get home and didn't have time to go to three stores for the three things I needed.
Anyway it's all good. Turned out okay.

And I want to thank all the friends I have made here at DU who gave me the courage to speak out. Reading how others are speaking out was what motivated me to say something.

12. I have a confession. I went to Wally World about two weeks ago. |
|
And it won't stop haunting me. Couple a days after the trip to Hell's Sweat Shop I noticed one of those stupid yellow smiley face stickers (they stick on everything but the gold fish's asses) stuck to the concrete under my car port. Pried it up, threw it away and the damn thing is back. Don't know if someone is messing with me (unlikely as I do not have any close neighbors and haven't had company for awhile) or Satan has marked me for some terrible deed. I expect the Wally Police to come get me any day now. Some terrible deeds never go unpunished.

9. I wanted to tell the man how much WalMart employees |
|
cost the state of California last year in govt aid. I know I read that here on DU. But I couldn't remember. I think it was in the billions.

8. But I wonder why he didn't |
|
look at you and ask you "well then, why are YOU shopping here?"
Or did he?
I find myself in similar situations but am reluctant to speak for just that reason.

10. You know I took a risk |
|
I didn't even think about that possibility until later. But how about this response: I shop here to educate the other shoppers about the evils of WalMart.

13. I'd just tell him "Sometimes you have to do the wrong thing |
|
for the right reasons". The difference is knowing what is right and wrong, or more preferable and less preferable.
