Honda Accord -- anyone own one, have opinions? |
|
I am thinking of buying my friends 96 Accord.
It's a wagon and I need a wagon to lug my dogs around. It has 70K and is in good shape. She's taken good care of it. Driven entirely in CA and mostly locally. She'll give me a deal on it. I'd be looking for it to last (reliably) for another 3 years or 30K miles.
I've never owned a Honda, but I hear great things about them....any comments?

1. 70K is nothing for a Honda |

You can probably drive it double that with no problem.
My daughter has a 95 Honda Civic with over 150,000 on it and it's still going strong.
I would say they are very reliable.
Hope that helps...
edited to add: You'll have to replace the timing belt soon if it hasn't been replaced yet. That's the one thing I know you have to do at around 70K. So keep that in mind.

2. I've owned more than one Honda, including an Accord. |

They're awesome. Great on gas, and if you keep up the maintenance and the oil changes, they'll last forever. I currently have a '97 CRV with over 120k miles on it, and the engine looks and runs like new. You will definitely get 3 years out of it, and then some.

4. Everything you've heard is true |
|
I know a lot of people who have Honda's and no one has anything but praise. I just got a Acura TSX, which is on the Accord platform and I just love it.
And the bonus is Honda is a 'blue' company, gives 100% to dems.

5. Only 70K? That's almost brand new! |
|
Well, not quite, but I had a 1990 Accord that I bought with close to 200,000 on it, and drove it to almost 300,000 and would have kept it, except my stepfather made me a great offer on his 94 Accord, which I've been driving for about 7 years now. Love 'em both!
My only complaint might be that the AC isn't real strong, but then again, I like it "meat locker" cold. If the wagon has a 6-cylinder in it, the AC should be cool.
Sounds like a deal to me! You'll have no problem getting it to 100,000 and beyond, as long as you keep the shiny side up.

6. best car ever made.... |

96 wagon with 70,000? brand new-should get over 200,000 plus with no problem.--make sure you have the timing belt changed around 100,000 or so----it`s expensive but it almost guarantees another 100,000 miles. i`ve owned a bunch of honda`s- in fact my daughter`s 93 has over 200,000 and the engine and trans are purring right along...

7. I have in 04 Accord i bought last summer after my Acura got stolen |
|
i have no major complaints at all, the trunk is HUGE and the back seat is very roomy, my daughter is close to 5'3 so i made her come with me evrytime i tried out cars to see if she could sit comfortably in back and the Accord was the roomiest. I get great milage on the highway, i average about 33 hwy/26 city. Mine is the 5 spd manual ex 4cyl model, it has 160hp and it's pretty zippy. The only thing i wish i did was upgrade the steroe so i could plug in my ipod, i may do that some time in the future. I'm hoping this car will last me another 5 years becuse i plan on giving it to my daughter, the accord was ratest one of the safest for teenage drivers.

8. I bought a new EX last year, and I'd go and buy 3 more in a heartbeat |

I have a *huge* crush on my car. Best car I've ever had. You could do so much worse, and Hondas last forever. Enjoy!
