Velvet Revolver to play at DU Illinois Meetup Aug. 17
Edited on Fri Jun-17-05 09:27 PM by Radical Activist
ok ok...so they won't exactly be at the meetup itself. But, they will be at the same location on the same day, so its perfect for any fans.

Illinois DUers are having a meetup on Democrat Day at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on Wednesday August 17.

Democrat Day is a tradition in Illinois politics that includes a rally with all the major Democratic office holders in the state. Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama have spoken there for the last two years and are sure to come back. Come to the DU meetup and join us for the big Democratic Rally.

Plus! You'll get to enjoy a State Fair unsurpassed by any the nation. Experience all the fun rides, farm animals, beauty queens, music, great food and anything else you can think of all in one crazy location. If you're from the Midwest and have never been, it is definitely worth the trip. People from other regions haven't been to a State Fair unless you've been to one in a major agricultural Midwestern state. They're something different here.

This is sure to be a lot of fun so come join us even if you're not from Illinois! PM me if you want more information.

2. We may make it a joint meetup.
I have a thread in the Illinois forum asking if people would like to do a joint meetup with the Chicago DNC meetup groups around lunch time, or if people want to do a separate DU meetup at a different time of day.

I think a joint meetup would be a lot of fun. It seems like more than a few of the DNC meetup/progressive social people are also DUers anyway. The DemNet folks like the idea of doing it together as well.

4. Cool!
Let me know, or post on the other thread, if you have any feelings about the noon time joint-super meetup with the other groups or want to do something at a later time in the afternoon or evening or both.

8. It would be nice
So that Downstaters and Those around Chicago could meet and perhaps gain a better understanding of our perspectives (especially of recent events in the ledge). Did you say some other group was playing on the 18th at the fair?

Benny

10. The 18th is George Thurogood & the Destroyers.
I saw him open for BB King once and he puts on a GREAT show. I'm going to that one. Tickets are very cheap.

14. I love velvet underground.
Velvet Revolver is the former lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots teamed up with the band from Guns and Roses, minus Axle Rose. If you don't know who those bands are...ummm...I guess its more neo-90's metal than neo-grunge.

13. I'd like to see Geo "Move 'Em Over" and his Destroyers
I missed him when he played at Stubbs BBQ in Lubbock, Texas in 1981. I didn't know he was playing until that day, and I was just getting back from the Gulf Coast.

Looks like I'll miss him again. :(

9. A bus will be coming from Chicago.
You should go. So should Lipinski for that matter. A lot of the Chicago pols come downstate for Dem Day at the fair. The old Mayor Daley always did.
