What a beautiful, beautiful album. The music is so lush, and the harmonies are fantastic.

These guys have been villianized for years (because of their work during the so called disco era), but you can't deny that they had an incredible talent. A kind of talent that only brothers could possess.

1. There's a Barbra Streisand/Barry Gibb album
It must be 25 years old now - one of the best things you've ever heard. I mean, really, really powerful. It's called "Guilty."

Check it out.

3. Yes, made in 1980.
My wife has a greatest hits album of Barbra's with "Guilty" on it. Talented lads, those Gibbs.

2. Odessa is their best record...
A lost record in their catalog, too; great choice..

5. Yes, I read that Barry and Robin were at each other's throats
during the recording of the album. Robin briefly left and recorded a solo album (which I cannot find) and returned in 1971. I guess good work can be done while the "talent" is rowing. At least the Beatles were good at that, eh?

7. Oh yeah!
Robin's solo record I've seen every so often in good vinyl shops; "Cucumber Castle" (the record Barry and Maurice made) is a little more easy to find here and there...

4. I like some of their stuff
There's no denying that even the disco stuff was well written.

6. Yes, I call it thinking man's disco
The Bee Gees were not intending to create or be the leaders in disco. They simply knew that they had to recreate themselves, and become more funky. I mean, come on, the 70's were very, very funky.

And fun...

8. AGREED
absolutely; some of their songs give me goosebumps. A tragic family too, with the loss of two of the brothers.

9. You inspired me
I just found a brand-new copy on eBary for under ten bucks, and I bought it.

I'll bet it's everything you say it is, especially if a certain DJ agrees with you.

Thanks for the heads-up.

10. By any objective standard the Bee Gees suck
Edited on Sat Jun-18-05 09:44 AM by AngryAmish
However, there is an album called "Odessa" by the Handsome Family which is one of the best ever. It features the song "Arlene" which is both brutal and beautiful. Arlene even got banned by the BBC.

Anyway, stop wasting time listening to old disco records and listen to old country and western albums instead.

11. Did you get the vinyl version with the flocked cover?
It is a beautiful sounding and looking record.
