Great tool for Firefox users!!!
Don't you hate it when you click on a link to read an article and you're confronted with a "sign in" page? You can either register with the site or visit BugMeNot to get access info, which means you have to waste time copying and pasting the info into the proper fields. :-(

But ... I just found an extension for Firefox which will automatically get the access info and fill in the fields for you.

All you have to do is right-click on the "password" field and choose "BugMeNot" from the drop-down menu - and a username/password will automatically be filled in! It's so fast and easy ... EVERY DUer needs this! :bounce:

You can get the extension here:

2. It sounds attractive, but there appears to be some problems.
I tracked the discussion down to here: http://roachfiend.com/archives/2005/02/07/bugmenot/

It appears to be bug-free at this point, but I'll follow the chatter for a few more days before I install it.

On principle, I would regard "signing up" as a reasonable "price" to pay for free news services, but it's getting more and more of an intrusive pain in the ass each day. I'll certainly give it a try.

5. A year?
I can't believe I never heard of this extension before now. It makes it really easy to read all the articles that I find on DU and other message boards, because I don't have to register with every paper in the country! I just right-click and I'm good to go! :D

4. I've been using it all day and so far ...
no problems. As with any extension, there's always the possiblity of it being buggy and/or conflicting with another extension, but it's been my experience that problems usually show up early. But ... everyone's system is different, so I don't blame you for checking it out first.

I love it! It's EXTREMELY convenient. :D

6. Sounds good enough to me.
Now can someone please direct me to the ACTUAL LOCATION of that particular extension? I've spent the past several minutes in a futile "Where's Waldo?" snipe hunt. I found an "Install" link, but it took me nowhere.

9. Thanks. It was right up at at the top left of the page.
I'm afraid I let all the other chatter on that page distract me. I HATE that when my boneheadedness makes me look STEWPID!

I "installed" it, shut down my browsers, and started one back up again. I don't see anything different in the Firefox toolbars, but I'll go back to that webpage, and do some more reading.

10. You won't see anything different ...
When you get to a news site that requires registration, right-click on the password box. A drop-down menu will appear - select "BugMeNot"

The username and password will be filled in for you. :-)
