If the assault weapons ban is not renewed... |
|
KCDem and I are going to go get gun permits, and concealed weapon permits, and recommend all our liberal Democrat friends do the same.
I'm also mulling buying an assault rifle if the ban expires.
If I do, it would be stored disassembled in a locked box in a locked attic, as we have kids, and we'd keep no ammo in the house.
It would largely be a symbolic gesture.
Imagine conservative republicans' reactions if it turned out the biggest buyer of assault rifles post-ban were liberal democrats!
How quickly do you think the ban would be reinstated?

1. I don't know what you're talking about |
|
my brother-in-law bought an AK-47 about a year ago and then bought another Russian made AK-47 about 6 months ago, and he also recently bought a U.S. made assault weapon. Just because there's a ban on, doesn't mean you still can't get em REAL EASY. I could go out this afternoon and buy one. This law has been a joke since it's inception. The law is vague. It bans an AK-47, but it doesn't say AK-47(a) All they do is change the name a little bit and now, it's no longer illegal.

2. I'm sure this would have a positive outcome. |
|
80% of assault weapons are sold to liberals and radicals after the ban is lifted. Patriot Act II passes(Do they use diebold machines in congress?), liberals and radicals are incinerated on sight because there's not enough room at Gitmo. Sweet. Oh well, not like that won't happy anyway. At least with your idea, we have guns when the hammer falls.

3. I hope it's never reinstanted |

Banning weapons based on cosmetics is just silly. Why target guns rarely used in crime and ignore the top 10 crime guns?
Already have all the permits... will buy an unbanned Bushmaster AR15 if my financial situation is good when and if the AWB is repealed.

4. Been thinking my self too |

But I think I would stick to a doulble barrel or something. Not that I know Jack myself. I fired a nine millimeter five times as a boot, did not hit the target once.

5. The "assault weapons ban" is bullshit, sorry. |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-31-03 03:58 PM by Spider Jerusalem
Automatic weapons have been banned since 1934. THe so-called "assault weapons" ban applies to SEMI-AUTOMATIC weapons with: flash supressor, bayonet lug, pistol-grip instead of straight forearm stock, etc...it's COSMETIC and NOT functional, and as such the ban was nothing more than a cynical move by politicians to placate overly paranoid people who don't even know anything about the issue they're so exercised by while appearing to actually DO something (which is not the case).

It just has to look a certain way, like an M-14.

7. Don't store it, learn to use it safely |
|
A semiauto AR clone or AK can be a lot of fun (even without the Brady banned bayonet lug or folding stock)
And, if you go along with Mike Malloy's point of view, you may want to have both the gun and the skills one of these days.
Shooting can be a fun and safe sport and requires total concentration to get any good at it. You don't have to join the NRA or any other group, most of us don't.
There are a lot more liberal gun owners and shooters than a lot of folks want to admit.

8. I didn't say I wouldn't learn to use it |
|
I plan, if I own one, to take it to a shooting range regularly and gain proficiency.
I just won't store ammo in my house, and I will keep the gun disassembled and locked down when not in use.

I would rather the guns be in our hands than in the GOP's or some criminals.
