Poll question: Are You A Good Driver?
I've been in exactly three traffic accidents. None of which were my fault. I've been hit head-on, from the passenger side and from the rear.

Not a scratch on me, thank Jebus.

But I've also run up a ton of speeding and parking tickets.

So I guess, at best, I'm an average to above-average driver.

How about you? Which statement best fits you?

1. None of the accidents were my fault
And I haven't had a moving violation in almost 20 years.

Still, I drive very carefully because I'm not sure I'm a good driver. That policy seems to be working.

2. No collisions or tickets since the 1980s
I drove much too fast in my 20s and I was not a very experienced driver. Hey that reminds me, almost time for another one of my snowtires threads!

3. I suck at driving but no tickets, accidents
Besides backing into a pole in a parking lot at a very low speed causing no damage. I've had my license for two years after getting it on the fourth try. I've finally been settling down about driving but my husband is scared for riding with me when I drive still.

4. Only one of the accidents wasn't my fault
But on the brighter side, I've only had a couple of tickets since 1989 when I got clean, and no tickets since 1997.

7. I've never been at fault in an accident. I got one speeding ticket.
I had been doing 70 in a 65 zone and then the speed limit became 55 without my noticing. Got pulled over.

Accidents: rear-ended by an old woman who smelled a bit like Gin (was 17 at the time, couldn't place the smell then), hit by a classic foreign driver who was making a right hand turn from the left hand lane and put his signal on when he started the turn, which was as I was pulling along side in the other lane.

8. Two accidents
Both when I was young.

1) 16 1/2 Sitting catty-corner in the left turning lane. Dented the oncoming truck al the way down the side.

2) about 28 (I think). Driving at night on a recently paved therefore unmarked, unfamiliar road in a residential neighborhood. Did not know it was divided in 3 lanes. One left turning lane, two more for traffic flow. Tried to make a left-hand turn from the middle thru-way lane instead of the (undesignated) left turning lane. Dented that car all the way across too. :grr:

Haven't had an accident since and am 41 now. :crossing all my digits and knocking wood:

9. I'm a pretty good driver
I used to be a trucker, still drive on the weekends, and I've got between 700,000 and 800,000 miles with one accident. It was a single vehicle accident and nobody got hurt. I haven't had any speeding tickets in the last 14 years.

10. I have gotten two tickets in 25 years of driving
and was rear-ended (and my car totaled) while sitting at a red light. I'm a pretty safe driver, and pretty careful. One thing I've discovered is that I really don't drive that well if I'm distracted. Even talking to a passenger degrades my driving. So I'm very fanatical about concentrating on my driving. I wish more people would do that - everyone seems to think they're a good driver, meanwhile they're swerving all over the road while they eat and chat on their cellphones.
