Care package for sick co-worker |
|
A co-worker I know is about to go through another round of chemo. Unfortunately, I live a plane ride away but want to mail a care package just to say the folks here are thinking of the next round.
Since it's warm at the other location, can't send any chocolate, though I know the co-worker would have liked that anyway...I am open to suggestions, the gift box is waiting...

It'll work if you send it UPS.

2. I'd have to send it overnight then, eh? |
|
That will mean I'd have to coordinate with the co-worker to make sure someone is home when I send it. I'll check with UPS on the limitations.

5. They'll leave it on her porch or front door if you request it |
|
FedEx is more picky. And you can send it second day for a lot less. And dry ice will last 48 hours. I mean, if she likes chocolate that much. Order it online from some gourmet place and they will know how to ship it.

3. Books? A plant? You could locate a local nursery |
|
in her area and order online.

4. You are such a good friend. |
|
My ideas:
If they are a reader, maybe send a volume of inspirational poetry. Another option is a book on something/someone they love (an artist, a game, a hobby, etc.)
If you feel comfortable doing so and are close enough to the person, I would also send pampering-type things (bath salts, aromatherapy oils, relaxation or meditation CDs). In lieu of personal items like that, maybe a gift certificate to a spa where they can choose products/services for themselves.
Just a couple thoughts for you. Hope they help.

9. It's this thing about us, we don't like to see folks suffer |
|
and in the lieu of a hug a cyberhug, and want them to know their friends and co-workers care...

They have a website, Hershey Gifts, it might not seem as personal as sending it yourself. But they're the experts in shipping chocolate. Just a thought. :)

8. Send some homemade(or good bakery) cinnamon rolls...I had |
|
2 friends undergoing chemo who swore that my cinnamon bread was the only thing that tasted really good to them.

Then pack them in blue ice You'll still have to send overnight.
Or you could send chocolate chip cookies in a tin--You can even make them with those mini M&M's. Those can go regular mail or UPS and you shouldn't have too many problems with melty chocolate.
Personally I think you would spend just as much if you just went through David's Cookies or Harry and David and sent a basket. I know it may seem less personal but folks just love that stuff anyway.

15. Here's what a friend did for me... |
|
Chicken noodle soup, banana or zucchini bread, pasta and a jar of sauce, several kinds of bread (not too spicy), already-made tapioca pudding, and a fresh fruit salad and/or pasta salad.
If you can spare the extra change, find out the nearest gourmet food market closest to your friend, phone them up, and place your order.
A friend did this for me, and it spared us cooking for three days. What a blessing.
Best of luck to you and your friend.
