1. What's under the hood?
I have an iPod, so I'm not familiar with the Zen Nomad. How big is it (dimension-wise and capacity-wise)? What's the battery life like, etc?

I'm still waiting on an iPod (or something else) larger than 60GB so I can put all of my music on it.

Anyway, congratulations on your purchase. Make sure and get one of the tape or fm things so you can play it in your car, and get the cable to connect it to the home stereo. I've also seeded the whole house and back yard with $10 pc speakers I can connect the mp3 player to. I'd guess I only listen with the headphones on about 10% of the time, biking or walking, mostly.

4. I'm sorry, you are asking me questions--beeep. Next player
I told you I'm geek impaired.

YOu're supposed to be telling me! I'm just trying to figure out how to use it and what the features are. I don't know how to organize music yet. But I have succesfully downloaded 2 bunches of music from Lime Wire. But I'm not sure they have a very big collection.

Anyway, its about 3x5x3/4 inch, 30 GB)

Wow you must have one helluva music collection!

Do you mostly download from iTunes, or rip CD's ? (by the way, I have now just about exhausted my music download jargon vocabulary.)

It sounds good, I'm looking forward to figuring it out! :D

2. I have a Zen Micro
I love it. It's only 5GBs (as opposed to your 40?), but I subscribe to Napster To Go, which means I can fill it with as much music as will fit. I've heard a lot of great new music this way.

Just got some cool stuff from LimeWire, free, but on the other hand, I searched there for plain old Oasis, and they didn't have them! Geeeeez!

33. Do you like live music?
Go to etree.org. Some live stuff is also available on limewire but not too much.

34. Yeah, I sure do like live music
I love roots bluegrass and blues :D

LimeWire is starting to piss me off. I clicked a bunch of tunes to download, and left the computer on for two days.

Exactly ONE song got downloaded. Everything else says "Need More Sources"
Hummmmphh.

I'm getting alot of good music from this: http://msn-cnet.com.com
Not big name artists. All different genres.

9. hee hee! good luck on that!
I've never heard of the MuVo.

I checked around on Amazon and read reviews there until I got a good idea of how some of the main devices compare. I knew I didn't want iPod, mostly because its just waaaaaay too expensive for something that only has basically one function.

7. Welcome to the Zen famliy
First go here and upgrade your firmware.

And if you want don't want to just drag and drop music and want to manage playlists download playcenter here.

And if you have any problems look here Nomadness.net

Do a full charge of your battery before you use it and try not to let the battery fully discharge before you re-charge it. Lithium ion batteries work better if you re-charge them at about 20% capacity.

The updates are incremental and you need to do all of them in order.

23. That worked. One last problem now--
it says the update goes "together with Creative Jukebox Driver Update version 1.26.02, adds full Audible® audio support and allows you to use AudibleManager to download Audible audio programs, listen to Audible audio on your computer, and transfer Audible audio to your Zen Xtra player."

Soooo, I don't see the Driver Update 1.26.02 anywhere. So how can I download that if I cant find the link? Arg.

Also, what is "Audible audio" and where do I find it?

Sorry for all the stupid questions
I'll quit bugging ya now.

link
In the first column select "mp3 players" and then select the zen extra.

And on step 2 ( "2. File Type (e.g. Driver, Firmware, Application)") Make sure "driver" is selected on the drop-down menu.

This is the direct download link:

32. Audible is kind of expensive for what you get.
Also, considering you can get a lot of stuff via podcasting (may not work on non iPod players) why pay for Audible stuff?

If you are into audio books some libraries have a good selection. You can rip the CD to your hard drive and move the audio to your mp3 player.

I saw where one poster subscribes to napster....doesn't that mean you basically rent your music? If you unsub wont you lose your music? I hope iTunes doesn't go the subscription route because I will stop using them.

Now I'm gonna have to camp out at the nomadness forum, because I am totally confused about how to use the different feature, how to organize what little I've got downloaded alread, how to make it play a list, and not stop on one sone (was fine befire I downloaded th upgrade, but now its different)...
....too many questions to throw at just one person!

Thanks for all your help already!
